LDS Burial Endowed Member What If... - Page 3

Name: Travis

Comments: The handbook that the Relief Society president has or the blue handbook that the bishop/ stake president has states that the person may be buried with the clothing in the casket in a pack if it was a situation where the temple clothing would not be understood/ family member objected etc. Having been in this situation as an EQ president, I have found that the best source is to consult with the bishop/ presiding authority and let him handle it. Once you have done this, any obligation you would have would be relieved.
The handbooks are pretty clear on this and how it is done by endowed members only. Mistakes are made and sometimes more than you think.
I know a high priest who wants to be buried in his white suit that he works in the temple in. He cited the same handbook passages I am here and it doesn't state that the actual temple robes are required according to him.
The bishop has the handbook that covers this in detail. The Relief Society president has a guide for dressing the dead as well.
Hope this helps.

If Member Endowed Burial LDS

I had to move this Thread from the public Board because I just do not feel comfortable going into so many specifics with regards to the Temple and temple attire where anyone can read and the Search Engines index it. True, we may lose a lot of input into the Topic, but so be it as I do not want to be yet another site that makes sacred things an open spectacle for everyone.

I agree with you, JB. No worries smile.gif

When my nephew died, he was buried in his white temple shirt, tie, and slacks, but the ritual clothing was in the packet. There were family members who objected to his being fully dressed, and many of his non-member friends attended his funeral so that is appropriate. (Several of these tucked other items into the casket with him - a pack of cigarettes and a lighter in one pocket, and a flask of whiskey that I recall seeing.) It makes sense that if non-member friends/relatives will attend that the full "dressing" should not be viewed.
