LDS Haitian man gets a 2nd chance at education

Delva grew up impoverished and without a father in the largest city in Haiti. On Jan. 12, a 7.0 earthquake tore down much of the country's Third-World-quality dwellings killing tens of thousands in the process. Within days, many organizations, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sent medical teams to assist the victims. The doctors, nurses and medical personnel set up clinics and performed surgeries at the area hospitals. Delva, a 27-year-old devoted LDS Church member and returned missionary, volunteered to drive and interpret for the medical teams. Ref. Source 1

Fast forward seven months in Port-au-Prince, and it doesn't appear to me that much has changed in the streets. Many houses and buildings still lay in ruin, with rare rebuilding efforts in effect. Church Responds to Cholera Outbreak in Papua New Guinea and Haiti

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has joined with other nongovernmental organizations in response to a major cholera outbreak in Papua New Guinea. Local Church leaders report 75 deaths from the outbreak among Latter-day Saints. It is unclear how many total deaths there are, but some reports indicate it could be in the hundreds. Ref. Source 9
