Is it possible to fake a mental illness so well that you can fool your closest relatives and a psychiatrist?

For someone to be able to fake a mental illness they first have to know a lot about it and smart enough to fake it that well to fool others. I think it would be very hard to do but I do believe that there can be some that are smart enough to do it.

That would take so much effort I could not see why you would want to consciously do that while making yourself and others uncomfortable.
