I believe that I can answer that question for you. There is a Great Goddess/God and then there are deities. Deities can be thought of as tools just like anything else in the spell. The 'power' for the spell comes from within and the belief in oneself and in the Great Goddess/God to help us in that which we seek. If one is in doubt as to which deity to use for a spell they can always use the Goddess/God instead of a deity. However, since this is a religion and it takes time, practice, and a great deal of study one would know which was the best for them to invoke in their spell based on the research and study that they have done. You don't just wake up one day and say I am Wiccan, I am a Witch and start casting spells. You learn, study, and practice. Most Witches start out by doing basic spells for protection of themselves, their loved ones and their homes. They use the energies in the universe to bring more positive things to them, they believe in it and believe in the Goddess/God just as in any other religion. The only difference is that they don't believe in heaven or hell, they don't believe that the Goddess/God is there to punish them for their 'sins.' Some believe in an after life in which they are reunited with their loved ones, where they go to reflect on what they have learned or not learned in their previous life. Some don't believe in that at all. We are granted the freedom to explore what we believe or don't believe.
I hope that answers some of your questions. Feel free to ask any more if you wish. I will answer them to the best of my ability, however I am rather new to this path and still learning myself.
Magick truly does exist. There are many forms that can be used. Every religion that prays or meditates practices magick.
It can be as simple as visualizing what it is that you wish to have happen, or as complex as drawing diagrams using various minerals on the floor, lighting candles in various shapes, colors, and scents; and chanting in rhyme. It all depends on the desired affect, what you believe needs to happen and how to best come to that conclusion.
Do as thou wilt, an it harm none.

Comments: Magick is a true art. It is the natural order of nature with the natural order of other material planes to bring about a change. Only those who know what they are doing should be involved in this, it is not just for curiosity because the consequences are many.
