Amonhi poses some interesting questions. Here are my opinions:
Lightning: The Coming of Jesus is here likened to how lightning shines when it flashes from from one part of heaven to another (Luke 17:24), or
QUOTE |
For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall the coming of the Son of man be. |
QUOTE |
The Kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! Or, lo there! For, behold, the kingdom of God has already come unto you -JST Luke 17:21. |
QUOTE |
The Prophet then told the Council that he knew they could not draft a constitution worthy of guiding the Kingdom of God, and that he had gone before the Lord and had received the Constitution by direct revelation:.... "Ye are my Constitution and I am your God and ye are my spokesmen, therefore from henceforth keep my commandments." |

it did escape them that this form of government was not possible under existing world conditions. But an already well-developed apocalyptic outlook helped keep the notions alive. First, the Church would gain in influence and respect with the world. Second, the chaos of a disintegrating world would drive people to the Ensign of the Latter-day Saints, saying: We don't care about your religion; but you are a good people, and you have a just and stable government with which we would be willing to cooperate. Then lastly, cataclysmic events would elect the Saints as governors of the earth.... |
Very interesting thoughts! Thank you,
Please explain how the following 2 points work, (I am open to anyone's input).
- The kingdom of God comes not with observation.
- The kingdom of God is within you.
- Has already come.
What is inside of us that cannot be observed by others which may have already come to us which is the kingdom of God?
Remember that when Jesus said, "is within you," it is a mistranslation. See the footnote for Luke 17:21b & c. What he said is, "the kingdom of God has already come unto you."
"Comes not with observation." If Jesus was the Kingdom of God, when he said this to the Pharisees, then he is saying that they would not have been able to tell when he was around merely by watching for the signs. Perhaps the spirit must bear witness when the proper signs manifest themselves in order for it to be known.
For instance, George Q. Cannon said:
QUOTE |
The greatest events that have been spoken of by all the Holy Prophets will come along so naturally as the consequences of certain causes, that unless our eyes are enlightened by the Spirit of God, and the spirit of revelation rests upon us, we will fail to see that these are the events predicted by the Holy Prophets." --LDS Quote Book, BYU Religious Circulation Desk, 1990. |
