Lds Susan Brock Case

This is one of the most disturbing cases I have read in a while. Susan Brock is a married woman with children who attended the same ward than a 17 year old boy she is accused of sexually abusing. She started grooming the boy when he was only 11 years old. She pursued his older brother first without success and then turned her attention to the younger brother.

When the boy reached the age of 14, she started having a s-xual relationship with him. She would even arrange meetings with the boy through the boy's high school girlfriend. In one occasion, Susan handed over a new phone she has bought for the boy and gave it to his girlfriend so she could give it to him. However, the girlfriend talked to her parents after seeing that the phone was full of s-xual videos of Susan, indecent pictures of the boy that she took, as well as messages. It is also reported that Susan provided condoms, her house and her car for the victim and his girlfriend to have s-xual intercourse.

Many times, during the encounters (that lasted 3 years) the boy asked her to stop but she would buy him expensive gifts, electronics as well as threaten him in those occasions with suicide if he didn't cooperate.

Now, how this whole thing started? Let me tell you, it gets more sick by the minute. The daughter of Susan named Rachel Brock ( 21) began having s-xual encounters with him, according to police. She has been indicted by a grand jury on five sexually related counts of s-xual conduct with a minor and furnishing harmful materials to a minor. The encounters occurred when she was 18 and the boy was 13.

All of them, members attending the same ward.

In 2009, the boy's parents and Susan and her husband had a meeting with the Stake President over the concern of the parents of the boy about the expensive gifts and "influence" of Susan over the boy. The father confronted her in that meeting and asked her if she was having a s-xual relationship with the boy, she denied it. The parents also tried to angrily give back an Ipod Susan has bought for the boy. Susan's husband grabbed it.

The Church states that the meeting was never about concerns over an improper relationship and the Stake President wasn't aware of it. However, later on and two different Bishops, a confession was made (after the father of the boy got proof by installing software that recorded chat sessions and approached a retired police officer from his ward who contacted the police) but those two Bishops did not contact the police.

When the police arrested Susan, they were looking specifically for an Iphone. The husband said he didn't know where it was but he finally gave it to them (he was concealing it).

This case is truly bizarre, all members, same ward, lots of questions and few answers.

What are your thoughts about this case? Did the husband knew about what was happening? Did the leaders inform the authorities? How many "Susan's" are there in our wards?

This is indeed a very complicated issue. Do I think she is a predator? I do. Do I think the Stake President knew about the abuse and failed to contact the authorities? I have my doubts however, the other two Bishops who knew about it should have contacted the cops. They didn't.

That is such a disturbing story to read being a mother myself. I wonder how I didn't know about this one until now. We have to pay such guarded attention to our little ones.

The Church followed procedure and did everything they could to protect the boy. The Bishops shouldn't be blamed for nothing, they did what needed to be done.
