Comments: How do Mormons become Mormons if they belong to another religion?
It matters to an extent what religion they were before. If Christan, the change is relatively simply though possibly still complex as Mormons are Christian just with a few important changes details. It would mean giving up a few commonly held beliefs, like how there are no prophets and apostles in this day and age (in the Mormon/LDS church there is), that there can be no other scripture then the Bible (in the Mormon/LDS church there is), or that of the Trinity (Instead God is the Father and Jesus Christ is his Son and are two separate beings. Then there is the Holy Ghost who separate as well. What makes them one is that they are one in purpose).
Other religions these differences and complexities can be even worse. Like for example there are many similarities between Mormonism and Islam but many differences as well. Some differences being great enough to get a Islam killed by his former religion. If you wish to learn more I would suggest searching for the Wikipedia page "Mormonism and Islam". It is 'fairly' accurate in it information though not perfect, as anyone can edit Wikipedia's pages. I would suggest studying each religion separately and comparing it with the LDS church as you go and consider the possible difficulties in someone changing their religion to that of Mormonism.
