I agree but I have two meaing in mind that could mean lost:
1. Geographically lost
2. taken away from earth

Which one is it? Anyways I have one more question: Who are the lost tribes?

Comments: In one of these replies, someone mentioned that the main body of captive Israel remained behind while a smaller group departed and headed further north. So it would seem consistent to say, that since missionary work has opened up in Russia, that it seems reasonable to presume that various tribal members will be found. While at the same time, revelations concerning those who left, would also return intact as a group. The fact that a few who never left, are being found by missionaries, should serve as a foreshadowing sign of the nearness of those who were led out, to return according to prophecy and being led by their own Prophets.

There could be peoples in Russia and elsewhere who's Patriarchal Blessing may identify them as among the lost tribes - usually those outside Ephraim (most common) Manasseh, and Judah. Ephraim & Manasseh are both Joseph's sons.

Although many scriptures mention the tribes sifted & scattered throughout the earth, there are specific scriptures mentioned in the D&C that they will come from the north countries and they will have their prophets in their midst. Also, Christ in III Nephi tells of his going to visit them also, and someday we will have their scriptures as well as the four standard works. We will also have the records of Enoch's people who at this time live in a Terrestrial environment not on this earth, and will return as well.

It is quite possible the Lost Tribes are still just that...Lost (or hidden) from the rest of the world - somewhere! After close examination of D&C scriptures, they may be lost to us but not the Father. Their sciences may be ahead of our as well. I believe the main body is yet to be found.

Hello all, first post here..anyway about the lost tribes, people often forget what the 10th article of faith says

"We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory."

Its not a spiritual or an awakening, but a literal gathering. They will be coming from somewhere in a group. I'm sure there were stranglers that were left behind. That is the cause of the blessings, but the main body is somewhere unknown.

Comments: I concur with Ronan. Although the tribes (especially Joseph's posterity) broke off from the main branch as they traveled northward from the Crimea/Caucasus region, the main body headed northward to an unknown land. Consider D&C 133 telling of their return when the waters of the great deep return to the north countries, where the tribes will "smite the rock and the ice shall flow down at their presence, and a highway in the great deep" shall be cast up. Here's what hits me..."their enemies shall become a prey unto them" and "the everlasting hills shall tremble at their presence." Surely they must have technology and vast numbers of people we are unaware of. Also, D&C 110 mentions Moses giving us keys to gather Israel from the four quarters of the earth, and the "leading of the ten tribes from the "Land of the North." Any comments?

There was popular opinion among BYU students 40 years ago that so called Flying Saucers and UFO's/USO's could possibly be the Lost Tribes or perhaps City of Enoch peoples. The Journal of Discourses has a plethora of information to glean and consider. As far as Bruce R McConkie's opinion on scattered Israel, that is true, but he had disagreements with his father-in-law; Joseph Fielding Smith as well.

Just as a school teacher will get 20 different interpretations on the same subject, so to will the greatest among us sometimes differ on mysterious or unclear passages. In the late 1800's and early 1900's, some felt the earth was hollow and they were hidden away there. Later, that theory dissipated after aerial reconnisance found no opening, and the "scattered only" opinion became the standard. That started changing in the 60's & 70's to a more "main body hidden away" possibility.

Currently, no General Authority would publicly express such opinions because the media would have a circus with it. Public opinion and the Media are not in our favor, as displayed with Mitt Romney's unsuccessful Presidential bid last year.

So here we sit writing & reading on a subject with no clear picture, but we will know soon enough. They are to come to us for the higher Priesthood and Temple ordinances. They will also (with us and the Lamanite remnant) help build New Jerusalem.
