I can't stand fruit cake. I do not like it at all. It is so dry and those fruits inside of it, yuck!. I mean, if I have to eat it, I'll eat it but is definetly NOT something I like. Felipe loves it and JB too.

Mom's got several "marinating" in the refreigerator right now |
Marinating! FarSeer, you made me giggle like crazy! I don't know that I've actually ever really HAD fruitcake because it's just such an oddity. Now. Pannetone, that's a whole different story. That's a different version of the weirdness known as fruitcake. But, it's very yummy.
Yes, marinating. Well, first, she soaked the raisins in brandy (she calls them "drunk raisins") before adding them to the batter, and then she brushes the outside of the baked fruitcakes with brandy and wraps them in cheesecloth (that's a very loosely woven cotton cloth used in baking, for those who don't know). They marinate in the refrigerator for several weeks.
Again, I say "Bleagh!"
But, as a qualifier, several folks have told me that my mother makes one of the best fruitcakes they've ever had, it that means anything.
Okay, maybe I'm wierd, but I like fruitcake. So it bounces, and has a half-life instead of a shelf life. Of course this is real fruitcake, not those heavy bars of semi-edible chemicals you find in the grocery store.
