Do you think heads of state should be participating in carnival to the point of actually putting on a costume and going on stage? For me it just doesn't feel right.

What is Dr. Douglas thinking when he said that Carnival could be privatized? He is saying it was just a statement but you don't invite foreigners to tell we how to run Carnival unless you're planning to get them in on everything.

Comments: If the Carnival was a bunch of white folks doing the same behavior, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Look at all the n-de beaches out there, and spring break, no one criticizes those activities.

There is good and bad in everything but in Carnival there is more good than bad. It is part of our culture, it inspires creativity and generates a lot of revenue for the country what could be bad about that?

Comments: I see by the amount knives and cutlasses collected and displayed by the police that the criminals intended to have a real good chopping time. There is one serious thing that is quite evident about all this lawlessness, bearing in mind the attack reportedly made on two police men during this festive time, is that the job of being a policeman on this island is a very dangerous one, where policemen have to keep looking over their shoulders all the time.

Comments: When I write letters here to the local press being outspoken in suggesting that the government embark on a program of building new prisons for our brigade of roaming killers not yet caught,and a mental asylum to house some of our politicians.,some folks may think that I am not thinking straight or my ideas are not justified.
Well read the following which appeared in one of today's local newspapers, and then perhaps, if you are thinking logically, that I am at least justified in making the suggestion about the building of asylum to house demented politicians .

The above statement really can't be true .Someone is pulling the wool over the eyes of our citizens.Perhaps they are under the impression that our citizens can't read or understand what is written in the English language.

In this opinion column the writer makes the argument that government should not be subsidizing carnival in order for it to stay afloat. True to some extent but I think if Carnival is lost many Trinis will be worried about their identity. If steel pan, calypso and now carnival are left to die what will happen… another country will take them all over and it will no longer be unique to T&T. I wonder, how does Brazil do it?
