Avoiding Used Vehicle Scams In Trinidad & Tobago

One of the major issues with buying anything used in Trinidad & Tobago is the amount of scam artist out there. Some are very elaborate in what they are doing to take your money. The Trinidad Express had an article written in 2014 that is still true today. If you have bought, sold or thinking about buying a used vehicle in Trinidad or Tobago please tell us what you know to avoid being taken for a costly ride by a scam artist.

international QUOTE
“Make thorough checks of the vehicle, engine and chassis number,” said Archie, who added, “Check any numbers that may have been etched unto glass surfaces ensuring that they correspond with what is written on the certified copy or that these numbers do not appear to be tampered with, because before you part with your hard-earned cash you need to consider that the car may have been stolen.” Ref. One of the things I just do not get about Trinis trying to sell cars in Trinidad is the fact they are NOT the owners of the cars they are trying to sell! When you call for a car you are interested in they begin with this story about the owner, etc. What the hell are you selling a car for that is not in your name?

It's the fact that despite their name not being on the ownership of the car some people STILL fall for their trickery anyway! However usually cars being stolen only to be resold isn't as common in the past anymore, now criminals are usually going for breaking down vehicular into parts to sell.

People buy these vehicles because the 'deal' sounding so good to them that they just hoping it turn out to be legit but in the back of their minds they know that it could be stolen or have some scam behind it but they still do it anyway. Dotishness is the word we use for stupidity here.
