Fritzgerald Hinds

Fritzgerald Hinds, a fellow Rasta, wants to take the post he should have accepted two years ago? They asked the populace (TV 6) if that will help improve crime, 60+ percent said 'No', oh boy, what do all of you think?

Hinds Fitzgerald

Well, I guess Manning taught him the lesson that he wanted Hinds to learn, and Hinds finally learnt it. Hinds seems like a good talker, now that he has a post let's see if his mouth is where his money is on the real issues of governance.

Fitzgerald Hinds Caribbean / Tobago & Trinidad

Name: George

Title: Local crime

Comments: It is fair to assume that Mr Hinds is right when he says the crime is not new to T&T.This could be applied to almost all nations of the world. I assume that Mr Hinds is referring to the crime scenario as it is now. It is obvious that Mr Hinds was not around during our colonial days or early independence by his modern day statement. . During our colonial days murders were far and few between. Perhaps one or two per year. This trend continued during the first few year of independence. It was our political pioneers during the early years of independence that caused the increase in crime here. They began to dabble in corruption which soon became a widespread activity here among our politicians an those in positions of authority. The local criminals soon caught on that here was a government who are planting the seeds towards criminality and soon joined in to play their part in the new and easy way to become wealthy overnight. They embarked on a kidnapping spree which has now escalated into every day murders caused mainly by robbery of innocent citizens. The criminals are still in search of quick wealth an importance. The arming of our police only added fuel to the fire. Mr Hinds want to be reminded that crime here since our independence has increase beyond the point of control of our local police force, and this was caused by our politicians turning a blind eye to its development .Politicians here relied only on local recruited police men to stem the flow, which has so far failed for over five decades. The outstanding problem is that despite of all the money spent on the police in supplying them with modern equipment the criminal still has the upper hand. The police here has become a useless force where dealing and catching our local killers are concerned. Some even turning to crime to improve their financial status. Senior politicians here must stop accepting crime here as a normal event and deal with it in a pragmatic and serious manner. We need outside help now. We cannot continue to have our citizens living in fear of their lives whilst politicians see and treat crime here as acceptable and as a normal process of every day events, and keep making useless verbal statements to quell the anxieties of the public to try to resolve this problem. This is a small nation with a limited population and politicians should be able to take the bull by the horn when dealing with our hardened local criminals. They know who they are. Where murders are concerned it is essential that the death penalty is restored and commence hangings immediately of those convicted killers .Not doing these two things could only lead to the high rate of annual murders we now expect and have here.
