Comments: When Trinidad was explored by Columbus in 1498, it was inhabited by the Arawaks; Carib Indians inhabited Tobago. Trinidad remained in Spanish possession, despite raids by other European nations, until it was ceded to Britain in 1802. Tobago passed between Britain and France several times, but it was ultimately given to Britain in 1814. Slavery was abolished in 1834. Between 1845 and 1917, thousands of indentured workers were brought from India to work on sugarcane plantations. In 1889 Trinidad and Tobago were made a single colony.

Comments: I read that the Prime Minister is to have the bones of the ancestors of the First Peoples of Trinidad and Tobago discovered buried under the Red House during its restoration will be properly interred and a memorial erected when the Parliament returns to the building near the end of next year. Could the Prime Minister also consider sprucing up the statues of Christopher Columbus and Captain Arthur Andrew Cipriani who are also associated with the history of this nation.

Title: Defacing the statue of Columbus

Comments: It would appear that we have among our citizens a high percentage of those suffering from political delusions and xenophobia. Now, who, and why on earth would anyone want to deface the statue of Columbus in Port of Spain.I also can't comprehend why some are asking for it to be removed. It has stood there for many decades without any adverse comments now suddenly there adverse comments being made about it and having it removed. Why? In my opinion this all adds up to a nation set on destroying its good name and record of its history.
