Teaching Religion In Trinidad & Tobago Schools

What are your thoughts about the Ministry of Education's decision to have a general religious education be taught in all schools regardless of the school's religious preference?

I don't agree with this idea for a number of reasons:

1. The Ministry will be interfering with the rights of private and non-religious schools and I think it's plain wrong.

2. The Ministry will be interfering with the rights of parents who don't wish to send their children to religious schools, maybe they are atheists, etc and now their kids will have no other choice but to be exposed to this sort of teaching.

3. In my opinion, it goes against individual rights and I'm surprised at the initiative.

4. Who is going to teach this class? If the idea is to teach about ALL religions, who is going to be qualified to ensure they teach the correct beliefs of a particular creed?

I disagree Doubles. I think teaching religion in schools can help the youth of Trinidad and Tobago. Many of them aren't being taught morals at home and that's why they're now criminals. We need to bring back God to our classrooms!

Comments: Those in positions of authority especially where education is concern must make their minds up as to whether they want a divided nation or not.and avoid planting the seed of more division within our nation .
Having schools that only represents minor religious group are only going to ensure that division among our up coming generation becomes widespread, not only in an educational aspect but in personal attitudes towards others educated at other educational institutes which in the end could prove detrimental to the future of this nation.Education here for school pupils tshould be based on a national curriculum and not based on religious idealism.
