Comments: The obtaining of a driving license here at a price is nothing new. It has been going on for over 30 years. The only difference now is that the price has gone up. This corrupt practice is the cause of many deaths on the road by drivers who in many cases never even took one official lesson In the techniques of driving a vehicle, but were able to obtain a full driving license at a price. This form of corruption at this complex must be officially passed down the line for it to be still in existence. Politicians and almost all of our citizens are well aware to this corrupt practice. From time to time we get an outburst from some politicians about this practice and how they are going to stop it.I remember under the previous government one of our notorious politicians saying that he had sorted out all the adverse problems at the licensing office. Now thinking about it, he probably made matters worse, knowing his association with corrupt practices. However that where it ends, the problem just do not go away as is reported in the latest report. The officials at the licensing office seems to encourage corruption and it is now well established and embedded in the procedures of this government department. I remember over twenty years ago when I went to the licensing office in Wrightson Road to retrieve my imported car I was approached by a young man carrying metal dye casting set .He told me that he could alter the serial number of my engine if I wanted it done. The disturbing thing about this, is that he was well known for his trade and lingered around the compound freely without any hindrance.I would image he or his successor is still there offering this illegal service right under the noses of the officials who perhaps even share in his profits. This is clearly part and parcel of a nation corrupt to its core.
