Is the subject of being Vegetarian / Vegan in Trinidad & Tobago taboo?

If you mentioned to a local that you are Vegetarian / Vegan in Trinidad & Tobago will that be taken with objection?

Are there well-known Trinidad & Tobago Vegetarian / Vegan communities?

Vegetarianism seems quite popular in Trinidad, veganism not as much. Having said that, if you think about it there are a lot of available foods for vegans in this country. Plenty fruits, fresh vegetables (Often times, organic) and a variety of other options.

Not really, if you mention it people will see you as "Into health" But their concept of being vegetarian can sometimes be off - for instance they will still offer you fish.

Only if they are inviting you for food in which there is meat and you refuse.

The biggest community of vegetarians tend to be mostly Hindu or Adventists. However vegans are not that popular and it seems to be more of a 'preppy' thing for some sixth formers.

I am a vegan. As Pandora mentioned there are many options and local dishes without meat are plentiful: curry, provisions and callaloo, etc.

What? Vegans in Trinidad? What kind of madness is this! I never met a vegan in this country they must be hiding or something. I don't get how can anyone be a vegan in Trinidad when there is Kentucky all around you!
