TV6 News says two men have been charged. One is from Tobago and the other from St. Vincent. They are both construction workers and there is so far no evidence that they knew the Wheelers. The motive was robbery. The police did hint that they may be connected to another 2014 murder in Tobago.

JB, I do not feel all comfortable about this latest development. Something just simply does not add up!

I am with you on this one, are we expected to believe that someone would commit this horrific double murder, take credit cards from the victims then just go down the road and attempt to use the cards?
Does anybody know the availability of DNA analysis on Tobago? It would be highly unlikely that there would be no trace of the assailant's DNA on the Wheelers. Maybe there is not that level of sophistication available to the investigators. Interesting that the hint has been dropped by the Police that there may be a connection to 2014 murder.
If these two go to trial there would have to be some rock solid scientific forensic evidence to convince me, they might as well have gone round to Crown Point Police Station rather than try and use the cards, the result would be the same.

..... Richard Wheeler was in the process of assisting Peter Green sell his land (Title of which was in dispute between Peter Green and the party he had purchased it from). I need to ask how POSITIVE are you that this is a FACT?
That would make a link. But the Tauts are not linked, other than tenuously thru Bacolet.

I could easily see the Romeo thieves being idiotic enough to be set up by someone passing them stolen goods. If that is what happened then let us hope they could describe those persons. Or the vehicle involved. If not then we will be stuck with two thieves and no murderers. Until the next time it happens.

Linking the Greenes to Richard Wheeler still leaves several unsolved but seemingly related deaths.
The Tauts. Mr Mt Pleasant. The Tobago woman doing her garden. Going back even more years we find a mysterious murder, the FIRST one? .. A Norwegian couple at home in Bon Accord development near to the Shade night club. Similar death. Screams were heard but no one investigated. This was during daylight, one afternoon.

While there may well be a link between the Wheelers and the Greens, it doesn't link the others. They remain unrelated and unsolved. Yet similar in many details...

Comments: Margarit, I am simply repeating quotes attributed to Peter Green which appear in various articles about all these murders which appear in the UK press, The Guardian, The Daily Mail and the BBC.
Peter Green describes Richard Wheeler as a friend and says that he has been involved in selling his (Green's) plot of land. This is the land upon which Peter Green says he had commenced building when he saw the completed house for sale in Bacolet. He decided not to continue with the building but to buy the completed house instead. He went on to say that there was a dispute over the land with the man he had bought it from who claimed there was a clause in the original sale agreement to the effect that Green could only sell it back to him. Green further states that Wheeler discovered that Green's wife's name had been removed from the deed. Those held for Peter Taut's murder were occupying his house claiming to have bought it from them, Peter Taut was a neighbour of the Greens as were the German couple. My suggestion of a link is the fact that all of their properties are in close proximity and therefore there is a possibility that the land upon which they are all built once belonged to the same person or entity. Because of the proximity of the properties it is possible that a person or persons had a grievance or felt an entitlement to that land which could possibly have been acquired in some under-handed fashion, this is pure speculation on my part. However the original detail of my post originates from UK newspaper articles and attributed to Peter Green.I agree that you should not believe everything you read in Newspapers however Peter Green has not made any attempt to dispute the quotes so I can only conclude they are his.
As a general "link", it is a fact that all these nine victims were European (Excepting Grace), seven of them had been regular visitors to Tobago who subsequently acquired property, three of those properties were close together, Peter Green's plot was in dispute, his deeds had been altered without his knowledge, Peter Taut's deeds had been in some way interfered with, those held for Taut's murder claimed to have bought his house from him and he had returned to Germany (When in fact he was buried in his garden), Richard Wheeler was an accomplished lawyer,specialising in conveyancing and his wife was a Real Estate agent.Peter Green has been quoted as saying Richard Wheeler was assisting in the sale of his land and that the previous owner of that land was claiming to have an option to buy it back. I think one could be forgiven for suggesting that there is a common thread here which could come under the heading "Land/Property/Title Disputes. On the other hand these could be a string of coincidences and they could all be random robbery- related murders and attempted murders in which case perhaps there is a case to re-impose a state of emergency in Trinidad and Tobago?
I hope you do not refer me to one but I am not aware that any "tourist" in the purest sense of the word, I.e. Has no local connections, staying in conventional hotel accommodation, has been chopped with a cutlass and finished off by having their brains bashed in with a blunt instrument? It is absolutely clear that the primary objective in the most recent attack was to ensure the total demise of the victims. This need to be absolutely sure of the victim's death does suggest that the victims knew their assailants.

John, like my dear old school friend Grace Wheeler, I too am a citizen of TT and have lived in Tobago for 26 years.

Undeniably there are serious and vexatious land ownership,problems which have on rare occasion turned violent. The Tauts I do remember the case ... The criminals were held on the site due to swift action by a neighbour who was aware of what was going on. Their case was tried and solved without the shadow of a doubt. The convicted man, from Jamaica, has since died in jail from a terminal disease.

The Green case was horrible and notorious, ineptly handled and their bitterness and vengeful retaliation led to a divided public response. It's still dragging on. Unresolved.

That doesn't mean we are right in making assumptions or links between all the other cases, or that land deals gone bad were also the underlying cause of all or any of them. Neither Mr Mt Pleasant, nor Shirley's sister nor the Swedish coulple inear the Bon Accord lagoon had any land grouses in Bacolet. Did they? I'm really hoping we will keep a clear head to see what actually emerges as the facts emerge. We need to,solve this.

This horrible situation is NOT about visitors and their safety. It's about OUR safety. If we are safe, our visitors will AUTOMATICALLY be safe too. Let's solve these brutal murders for our selves, so that we will all feel safe again. Nothing less than that will do.
