Antigua and the USA recently renewed a lease agreement for an airbase stationed in Coolidge, Antigua which is used to track launches from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The lease is good till 2008 and will see the US paying 1.25 million US and 93,900 in maintenance costs. Not a bad deal for both countries. I wonder what made the US choose Antigua for this airbase; was it global positioning or was there some political involvement?
