Bandits stormed the home of a medical doctor yesterday, beat his son, and escaped with a safe containing close to $1 million in valuables.
Dr Ralph Manjoo was attending to patients at a private nursing home when three armed men entered his home around 11.30 p.m.
His wife, Sheira Maharaj, who recently underwent surgery, and 22-year-old son, Shivannand, were at their Friendship Village, San Fernando home. Family friends, Seberal Seelochan, and his wife Yasodra, were visiting when the incident occurred.
Police said the Seelochans had just entered the family's home and were about to sit when a man ran upstairs, asking for the doctor. But before anyone could reply, three men - one armed with a gun and two with cutlasses - entered the house.
