Trinidad And Tobago Fertility Rate

I noticed sometime ago that every time I hear the number of inhabitants in Trinidad and Tobago the number decreases through the years. At first I thought it was the amount of people probably migrating to other lands until I found that the Fertility Rate in Trinidad and Tobago is only 1.65 Not even two kids! No wonder people think you're crazy when they see you with three or more children.

Perhaps it's rising affluence that's the cause. In the past, parents would have many children since not all children would reach adulthood due to poorer medical knowledge in that era. Maybe with our more advanced medical knowledge, there is little need to have many kids.

What ca1979 said is the likely reason. Women of today no longer want to be stuck at home with kids.

I don't see the connection at all. The "need" of children has nothing to do with advanced medical knowledge. In my opinion, it has nothing to do with health concerns. Since we are speaking specifically about Trinidad and Tobago, I have to say based on comments I hear is that people in general are just not "kid's friendly" and see children as a burden or stepping stone in their lives. Besides the financial aspect (obviously understandable), MOST people I have talked have said "You are MAD for wanting 6 kids. Why do you want to "STUCK" yourself with so many?". Textual words.

The same people who say that they cannot afford it are driving 2008 cars and paying tickets for concerts in the thousands of dollars! I am sure there are cases of people who may truly want it but cannot, but I don't think that's the majority. A lot of Trinis just want to party, have fun and kids just don't allow you to do that! Like I always say: People don't like children because they don't allow you to be selfish.
