Nikki Introduction

I am a frequent long term vacationer to Tobago. I have been going there for two years staying for 9 months in each year. Living in a local apartment and with local people, and I have been fortunate to have made many friends there. Claudia was one of those friends and she has been tragically murdered, her throat cut, and it has traumatised me.

I love Tobago, it's culture, it's people, and the way of life. Claudia was living there and had achieved her dream of a job enabling her to stay. I think of all the fun and good times we had together, and find it hard to believe that her life has been so suddenly and tragically ended.

What is happening in Tobago recently? So far we are only months into the year and there have been 4 murders. I was in Tobago in October 2008 when the Swedish couple were so viciously murdered in Bon Accord. The whole island was shocked and ashamed that such a thing should happen. The island relies on tourists for its living and this has been very damaging to that.

I am in Tobago next week again and will be seeing the friends who have been calling me about the tragic news of Claudia's death. I love my life in Tobago, but will be cautious and suspicious now and more careful and watch myself. Such a shame to have this happen in such a laid back beautiful friendly and usually safe island.
