Hello Everyone,
I am happy to be here. I came across the link to this website on another discussion forum; and as I am always happy to interact with other Trinidadians on issues that concern us all I decided to "drop in."
I am pleased to see that unlike other forums there are certain standards which members are expected to maintain in their submissions to these discussions. Too often people tend to get carried away by their emotions when discussing certain topics and the quality of debate suffers as a consequence. But with ground rules like yours this is less likly to happen.
Looking forward to an interesting stay here,
LadyBird.

Brandon,
Thanks for the welcome. I only just saw it. I need to get accustomed to the layout of your site; need to do some navigation.
I will be updating my profile very shortly.
Quite an intesting array of topics you have here.

My last post on the "Trinidad/Caribbean Board" in the "Trinis Who Embarrass The Country Abroad" thread was deleted by "Persephone" for being off topic. I tried to start my own thread to discuss my viewpoint by was unable to do so. If a discussion is to evolve into a mature debate posts that seek to introduce dimensions to a topic other than what the initiator of a thread might have intended should not be summarily and indiscriminately deleted. I therefore seek some clarification and guidance on the issue of relevance and hope that this post will not be deleted as well. This discussion has so far focused entirely on Trinbagonians who commit or have committed illegal or criminal acts in foreign countries to the embarrassment of the country. Now, while the initiator of the thread might have intended to discuss solely the illegal, physical acts of criminally inclined Trinbagonians that are embarrassing to the country, the title of the thread lends itself naturally to the introduction of another dimension of even greater relevance and national importance than the narrow, one tracked discussion that the initiator of the thread might have intended and the simple one that has ensued. Nearly all Trinbagonians, whether local like myself or foreign based like many of the participants in these discussions are undoubtedly embarrassed by the illegal shenanigans of other Trinbagonians who may be engaged in committing unlawful acts while on foreign soil. But that embarrassment pales into insignificance when we are confronted almost on a daily basis by a source of much greater embarrassment. And I refer here to the peculiar and bizarre mindset of so many upright Trinbagonians that thinks absolutely nothing of constantly painting a bad picture of our country; a mindset that allows those who are so unfortunately possessed to speak in the most disparaging terms and to disseminate without compunction the most atrocious falsehoods about Trinidad and Tobago. And they do so smugly and contentedly, totally oblivious to the fact that they are the true embarrassment to our country, more so than the few crooks that we read about in the foreign press. Now am I being irrelevant for raising an issue that is directly related to the topic of "Trinis Who Embarrass The Country Abroad"? |
