New Missionary Planner

Missionary work has changed from a path of number crunching and memorization to simplistic proselyting. I say that because we had some missionaries over two days ago and I was surprised to see that their planner contained a mini diary and 4 pages of 'discussions'. In my day we had to memorize scriptures, count numbers per day and week and we would be rigidly held accountable for it. Now it seems all of that has changed and to me it is a good thing. Any other feelings on it from those who know the difference between the two?

I think it's good, and long overdue. We had to memorize the discussions and were encouraged to give them word for word. I'm sure it was fairly obvious to investigators that we were giving a memorized lesson. Especially when you are a green gringo missionary who can only speak a few words of the native language and understand even less. Then all of a sudden, you can teach a concept in perfect spanish, or german or whatever language that you can't speak yet.

I remember thinking it would be better to teach in your own words and now we do.

I think it is great with the new change...well it isn't a new change but a setting of things in order to cater for these latter days. Heavenly Father saved the best for last. Therefor these young people are our future leaders so we need to better train them and allow them to be what Heavenly Father wants them to be.
