Cypher May Have A Point
One of the reasons Cypher became a traitor was based on what he considered to be a lie of Morepheus. He claims that he would rather his mundane life in the Matrix than having to take orders from Morepheus and fight like a scavenger below the earth. He believes Morepheus should have told him more about what taking the red pill meant. Do you agree that Cypher may have a point?
I don't agree with what Cipher did, and how he felt. I believe that after knowing he was freed from the Matrix, and given the opportunity to make his own choices, that he should understand the need for taking the red pill. Yes, he may have had to serve on a ship taking orders from Morpheus, but isn't that better than being plugged into the Matrix against your will?
The counter argument could be that once a person was freed from the Matrix, if they chose not to accept this freedom, why could they not be reinserted? While we actually did not see Cipher reinserted, I don't think reinsertion and mind-blanking would have been possible, because the mind would have rejected the idea of the Matrix after having known the 'Real World'. Therefore, he would have been killed anyway.
Cypher did not have a point at all. Cypher failed to see the one undeniable fact of his existence in the Matrix, he was a slave. In the Matrix he was nothing but a battery forced into use. Grown in a field, he wasn't even a number, he was a nothing, a product off the shelf that no one cared about. He failed to see that truth and thus failed to find the significance of taking the red pill.
