Commodore

Commodore systems came out with a cheap way to see the best 16-bit graphics that you could ever see on the market - remember those days or was your oldest gaming console a PS1?

No I remember the days of Commodore. I didnt have one, but my friends at school did. The Commodore 64 was really a computer but had few capabilities beyond playing games. There were literally hundreds of games available for the Commodore system; my favorite game was Lemmings.

Our first computer was a Commodore 64, and I had a blast with it! We only had one game, and that was Frogger. I remember the Word Processor for it was a blu screen, and the letters were so boxy. It was wonderful though.

I never had a Commodore 64, although my younger brother did. I had an Atari 130XE.

Later, my brother got an Amiga (also Commodore). He finally convinced me, so I had an Amiga 500 for a while. It was, without any doubt, way ahead of its time. If they had continued to build and upgrade the Amiga, it would be FAR ahead of any Macintosh or Windows computer. For games, I don't think there is anything, even now, that could touch it.

Not only did we have a Commodore 64, we had a Intellevision. The Intellevision actually had games still being made for it into the early 90's. This was when Nintendo took over.

It really is amazing at the pace of development in computers and graphics. Just to think that we were really entertained by 2 sticks and a moving dot (Pong) at time not too long ago and now one can play a recreation of the D-Day on the computer!

Real computers that were used for work and home did not occur until the 286's. You can argue that the 88's were really the first, but they were really not bought much for home use.

One of the best Christmas gifts I ever got was a Commodore VIC-20. Yeah, it only had 4k of built in memory but if you bought the tape drive you could even STORE the programs you wrote I remember spending hours typing in peek and poke statements to get the thing to play music.

Anyone remember the Scott Adams text adventure games? Those were great fun as well.

The days of the commodore were but last year for me, my friend bought one on ebay and we held compititions to see who could get the highest scores on great games like frogger, down hill skiing, basket ball. FUN.

Commodore Computer Issues & Video Gaming

My first computer was also a C64, it was slow it took ages load, you couldn't save your games and it crashed alot but I thought it was great, Bubble bobble is still one of my all time favorite games! I remember those old adventure games I hated them, it would get to a point where whatever instruction you wrote the answer was "the pirate/ wizard/ goblin etc wont let me! It is pretty amazing how far computer games have come since then I recently replayed Dizzy and rememberd how bad it was!
