Canadian lawmakers weren't exactly in the Halloween spirit when they approved a new bill on Wednesday. The legislation makes it illegal to wear masks during riots and protests. Guilty parties could face up to 10 years in prison. Ref. Source 1

I don't know anything much about Canadian law but I agree with this. Being able to wear a mask gives rioters a certain kind of rush that makes them feel they can do anything autonomously.

Really? It is illegal to wear masks during riots and protests? If a person is rioting and shooting at people, do you think the person really cares whether or not wearing the mask is legal? I mean... Shooting someone is illegal enough. Adding a mask to it isn't going to make much difference.

I think the intent here is that during a peaceful demonstrate like that which started out at the G20 summit in Toronto should stay peaceful. So how does one help this occur? If you know your face in caught on camera and you will be persecuted along with all committing violence you might think twice about doing it. So mandatory face disclosure might help stop some who would feel braver hiding behind a mask. If it could save a life I say lets do it.

I see the law as a technicality so they can charge you with even more crimes if you get arrested. The same happens when you don't comply with an officer during an arrest, he can charge you with resisting arrest, assault, etc.
