As far as I've known for all the games I've been in, the Detect Plants/Animal spell has always been handled like so:
Player 1 wishes to use cast Detect Animal/Plant, the character has to concentrate a moment thinking about the name or the kind of animal/plant. Depending on how long the character concentrates, the player can find out anywhere from if the thing you are looking at is indeed the animal/plant you are looking for, to how many there are in a conical area around you, to what the animals/plants status(I.e. Is it alive, how many hit points does it have)is.
As far as I know, as a Dungeon Master or a player, the Dungeon Master never needed to make a roll, just the player making a concentration roll.
I hope this is helpful.
Brunconero, I liked how you did the thing with the bush though. You are correct in making it so no one would have known what it was (especially since it was tampered with by a Goddess) and you gave me enough clues to realize there was something off about the bush. Sometimes things get muddled for stories sake, and I enjoyed it. It piqued my doubt about the bush.
My big dilemma was: if I told you they were not moonberries, it would be wrong because there actually were moonberries on the vines but if I told you they were moonberries it would be also wrong because they were blackberries plants. So my idea was: roll on knowledge but letting your character know that she finds them similar to blackberries even in case of an unsuccessful roll. The last thing I would expect when I created the adventure is somebody casting that spell at that time! But that's what makes the game fun, when everything is predictable becomes very boring.
Since Lukego is rarely able to post in these days (he told me that and he said it could last for a whole month) I will NPC his character. He will still be able to post actions if he gets the chance to connect, but I'll not always wait for him if all the others are ready before the 2 days deadline is due.
While I'll handle him, Ferrin will be completely passive. Like I did with Jonathan, he will not do anything unless specifically requested by somebody within the party.
Moving the discussion to here:
Brunconero, as I read it the Hunt trick is so the animal will go out and hunt for food for the player.
If you are saying that it would be an automatic trait for the animal and to pick another I shall.
Is this what you are saying?
Secondly do I keep hunt as a trick as well?
You meant hunting for you! Sorry, Bunny, I totally missed the "Trick part" for some reason. Is ok, but consider that it would be only his natural preys (if you are really lucky, a rabbit. Normally a small bird). You would get better results using your Survival skill. Up to you. If you want to keep it is ok and if you want to change it is also ok.
Been swamped for last several days.Sorry man. I will be posting in game tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Last post I said she was just following the group so I hope that has been okay thus far.
Kit, do you have any idea if Lukego is planning to take his character back or if he has no time at all? I'm wondering if I should free a party slot for new players. If he is sure to come back, I'll wait. Otherwise, having an active member would be useful for the party.
