AT THE RANCH

"Tomlin, is my name", answers the mysterious man. He walks a few steps ahead of MaryJaen, is not clear if because he wants to keep a protective attitude or because he prefers to take some distance from her. "There", he points after some time, "Those are the stables. I'm sure they would not mind if you decided to take shelter for the night". This said, he turns his back and, murmuring a barely intelligible "Good night", he takes his leave.
From the front of the stables, a fat man holding a lantern approaches MaryJaen asking: "And who might you be? What are you doing all alone under the rain at this late hour?".

The rest of the party retires for the night except for Tomas, that is still busy with his notes, and Ferrin that is still loitering.

AT THE INN

The tall peasant looks delighted by Jeaal's words. With a glitter of greed in his eyes, he takes the darts and prepares himself for the game.
(For the game of darts, roll 15 d20, in three groups of 5 rolls, adding to each of them your dexterity modifier).

Seeing Mina confused by her words, Abigail Goatshearer reacts in a harsh way. "Ok, I understand what an embarrassed silence means. I will spare you the effort to refuse my request. Thank you anyway and....see you". The girl covers her head with the cloak again and gets out of the room by the window. Mina is surprised by so much secrecy.

Krusten is dreaming. She dreams that there was this funny looking short man from some distant land called "Italy". He was a little wretched man that used to do mean things to the people he watched over so she had to use her battle axe on him to teach him the error of his ways. He begged for mercy but as usual she was merciless - even in her dreams. After doing so she had a wide grin. Later she got up and commented to herself, "Best dream I ever had!".

Canabusis nods to Tomlin, smiles and speaks up so the quick departing Tomlin will hear her. "Goodnight Tomlin, may you find peace." Then turns her attention to the stables. As she approaches she finds the large man holding a lamp, she replies to his question with a slight smile "I was seeking an Inn good sir when Tomlin found me on the road and was kind enough to lead me here. He said you may let me find shelter in your stables for the night, I will make no problems for you and be on my way at first light. If I may kind sir?" She gives him a pleading look as she awaits his answer.

Abigails rashness breaks Minas exhausted stupor, and she yells to the woman as she flees out the window, "Wait!"

Mina rushes to the window ready to take the leap after her, but calls out first, "You mistake an exhausted pause for an unwanted slight! Remain, please, so we can discuss this!"

With that she follows the woman down.

(Out of Character: Direct Actions: Jump check from the window +2, Tumble check at ground +4.)

AT THE RANCH

"I know no Tomlin", answers the man, "But I see no problem in letting you stay in the barn for the night. You will not be alone. Actually you will find the place quite....crowded". He grants you something that should be a reassuring smile, at least in his intentions, and shows you inside the stable's barn. A group of three peasants is laying down on the straw, setting guard, at the light of a simple lamp, to other three commoner that have been bounded and secured to a pole. The men are sleeping, save for one of the guards that looks at you briefly before turning his attention to the prisoners again. The fat man leaves and MaryJaen doesn't lose time in finding a suitable place to rest. She falls asleep almost immediately.

AT THE INN (OUTSIDE)

Mina jumps from the window taking Abigail by surprise. "Well, if you are ready to jump like that for chasing me out probably I can trust you", comments the merchant's daughter observing the druid while keeping her hands on her own hips in a challenging attitude. "Is a private matter so I would pray you to be very discreet about this", starts explaining the girl while Mina takes off the mud from her clothes. "Recently, a noble man came to the village. A Marquis from Nedo". The girl's voice is little more than a whisper and Mina has to get very close to her to understand her words.
"He met my father and asked my hand, repeating over and over how tales of my beauty spread all over the Empire causing many of a bachelor to dream about my grace". She pauses for a moment and spits on the ground with a disgusted expression. Now she gets so close that her lips almost touch Mina's own lips when she resumes her tale. The druid can feel the fresh smell of her breath at any single word she pronounces."He is staying here, at the inn, waiting for an answer. Father took time. He would agree right away: the man is young and my dad would kill in order to grant me a title. Any title. We have the wealth but we lack the blood. And, in this "Glorious nation", without the right ancestors you will always be nothing".

Abigail's blue eyes are set firmly in Mina's eyes. The girl's awesome beauty as well as her steadiness of character make the druid feel deeply unease. The image she likes to give of a spoiled and light young woman is totally absent now. The real Abigail is a smart and resourceful woman: a charming and dangerous being. "Everything is at stall only because I made a real hell in the house, pushing father to hold over a bit. He is trying to convince me now but it will not last forever: anytime he can call the marriage and I will not be able to do anything about it".

The girl takes a pause, then finishes her monologue. "The Marquis is strange. He was seen in public only once since he arrived, a week ago, and that was when he asked me to my father. His eyes are scary, he gives me the creeps. What I want from you is this: search the Marquis room for any clue. Find out who is him, why he is here or anything that could be useful. His name is Marquis Roland De Beucley. Exotic isn't it? He rarely gets out of his room so you will need to wait for your chance but, please, don't be too long. Butch knows everything and has a copy of the room key but be careful when talking to him: I don't trust the mother".
She pauses again, taking her breath. Then she adds: "I can give you 10 gold pieces for this and, most of all, all the information you might need about your "Bandits". Yes, those you think you have defeated". She quickly gets back from you, runs through the bushes and mounts on a horse that was left loose, disappearing in the night.

AT THE INN (INSIDE)

The commoner takes his first round throwing darts at the target scoring 6 points against Jeaal's 7 points. The elf gets the lead in the second round with a score of 10 against 4 and, even if he loses the third round 7 to 5, he is called the winner with a total score of 22 against the commoner's 17. A silver well deserved. The peasant, far from being angered by the loss, shows to have enjoyed the game: "A good player, aren't you?", he comments, "Long time didn't find somebody so skilled. It has been a pleasure. This time you have been lucky but, if you ever feel for another match, I'm always here". He introduces himself as Slim and his companions as being Bullneck, the huge one, and Rasty (Because he is a bit "Rusty" He explains with a laugh). Then they leave.

Mina and Jeaal join Ja'laron by the hearth, not wanting to challenge the night rain on their way back to the ranch. They quickly fall asleep.

EVERYBODY

The sky is cloudy and a light rain still washes the roads on the morning of day 22 of the 2nd month in the year 317 after the Cataclysm. Those in the ranch will find breakfast ready (Except MaryJaen).

Also discovered with my wisdom shore I should have 4 level 1 spells not 3.
