Carnosus steps forward as well. "Krusten, I know how you feel, from what I have seen you dot like to back down from stuff like this, but think for a moment, do you want to possibly die? Or do you want to live and fight another day? Just let it go! I don't know about all this religious stuff Tomas is talking about but still I agree that you shouldn't throw your life away. We don't need one of our strongest team members dying!"
AT THE INN
Ceza Feuro, still undecided between bringing the spare bag along or just take some of its content, spies what's inside the backpack left by the two guys that just vanished (Ja`laron and Jeaal). He opens the bag and immediately realizes that there is a single, cumbersome, item inside it: a small metal chest. Full of excitement, the mercenary retrieves the tiny chest and tries its lock. It opens easily but this is the only good news: the chest, in fact, is completely empty.
Mina recognizes the chest as being the same one she contended to Krusten in the soldiers' tent. Ja'laron was keeping it into custody and, from the look of it, once again Greed prevailed over Friendship.
AT THE RANCH
"Who is this Captain?", thunders Goatshearer, visibly annoyed by the fact that his questions are being continuously avoided instead of answered properly. "Why you keep mentioning unimportant people? You are the one that started accusing and you are the one that have to answer! And instead of answering you call for an Ordeal, a trial of Faith!".
The voice of Goatshearer is so roaring, at this point, and his figure so altered by rage that you almost don't hear Abigail softly murmur "The butler...", like if waking up from a dream. But a few seconds later, when the girl's whisper becomes an outraged scream, all the heads turn in her direction. "The Butler!", she shouts like if spitting a dirty insult. Then, talking to her father: "How many times I told you that you were raising a snake in our very house? I would not be surprised if he seduced this stupid girl and turned her into a tool....".
Abigail's intervention can't go further because she is abruptly interrupted by the Stablemaster that bursts into the scene fluttering his arms. "The stables are on fire!", he shouts in a desperate tone. "The beasts have run everywhere and the prisoners are on the loose". If his words ever needed a confirmation, it is given by the pungent smell of the smoke brought by the wind.
Krusten knows nothing of this situation adds up, it is a house of lies and deception at every angle. She also sees where her own party is so aloof of everything happening. Her anxious unwise action not helping it to play out well but as a secluded girl growing up being streetwise was not something that she learned very well from her military family that expected everything done immediately. Seeing that the distraction will cause a panic, Krusten will use the opportunity to first signal the rest of the party to cause a diversion, she will hide, then disappear. She will look for the nearest horse and jump and ride to make her escape. If no horse is found she will use the woods as cover and make her escape that way.
"Someone get water from a well" Tomas shouts above the crowd's noise.
He follows Kurstan's signal to the building, and runs there at full speed. He looks for any escaped prisoners and attempts to chase them down as a first priority.
The announcement catches Ferrin's attention and even makes him forget his roiling innards. He runs toward the building after Tomas, splitting off to the opposite side of the building as him in order to look for prisoners, as well. He will cast Grease in their path to slow them down and keep them from getting away.
MariJaen in the chaos that was unleashed when the stables had caught fire barely able to hear Tomas above the noise, makes for the well to get water. Yelling at anyone who is calm enough to listen to start a line from the well to the stables to pass the water to the blaze.
