The One

The One

Nighthawk made reference to this movie in another discussion and I thought it was worth its own. I particularly enjoyed this Jet Li movie. The premise of the movie is based on the concept of multi-dimensions, 128 of them to be exact, and all of us exist in each dimension. One of Jet Li's characters in one of the dimensions learns that if he travels to the other dimensions (yes, dimension travel is commonplace it seems) and destroys his alter person, he becomes stronger. The movie revolves around 2 enforcers chasing after this Jet Li character as he comes to Earth, the last dimension where his character is alive. The kicker is that as the bad character gets stronger, so does all the remaining characters. You'll have to see it to understand, but it blends good sci-fi with great action scenes. Definitely one I would consider buying on DVD to keep. 4.9 starorange.gif' />

Keywords: JetLi, TheOne

I saw this under-promoted movie a year or two ago and quite liked it. I'm a bit if a fan of Jet Li though (and not of Jackie Chan!). A chinese friend introduced me to Li's films quite some years ago (a few years before he was a known name in the West) - I heartily recommend the Fong Sai Yuk and "Once upon a Time" films (Number I is the best of this latter). They are set in China about 100-200 years ago.

Another under-promoted film is Equalibrium which is quite an amazing film, despite some weaknesses in parts, and has some quite accurate messages in it for the discerning...

I really liked The One. I am also a great fan of Jet Li. (And Jackie Chan!)

I thought the effects were very good. Of course, some of them were take offs of the Matrix, but that is not a surprise. After all, the Matrix built on other movies as well.

I really liked the premise of the movie, especially how the main character eventually developed his own strengths and figured out how to deal with his alter-ego.

I saw this movie based on this:

QUOTE
Nighthawk: I love to watch Jet Li movies. The One was incredible.

and all I can say is I was sorely disappointed. I guess Nighthawk really is a fan. To me this was a mixture of wannabe Matrix and Jackie Chan. The storyline was not original and the acting of poor grade. Jet Li looks better in traditional films, but for me he just does not suit the build here - he is just too short and his couterparts all tower over him. Maybe I am too critical, but I did not enjoy it. What is your review?

This just played on television again and I can only say that I am twice disappointed, especially after seeing fearless. I think Jet Li needs to stick with traditional style movies. The whole concept was unrealistic anyway.
