Trump says in tweet Army Gen. Mark Milley will be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the military's highest-ranking officer. Milley will replace Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford whose second, two-year term expires in 2019. Milley has been a member of the Joint Chiefs since August 2015 when he took over as the Army's top officer. Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley said it was a ‘mistake’ to walk with President Trump to St. John’s Church amid protests. "My presence in that moment and in that environment created a perception of the military involved in domestic politics," Milley said at a National Defense University commencement ceremony Thursday. Peaceful protesters outside the White House were forcibly cleared June 1 so Trump and other officials, including Milley and Attorney General William Barr, could walk to St. John’s Church for a Trump photo op.
