The chocolate is not already made when you order it. They take the usual vanilla ice cream and add a chocolate syrup like mixture to it. During the blending it is supposed to look like chocolate ice cream. This brings about several things:
1. Is the person preparing it mixing it properly?
2. Are they putting the right amount of chocolate?
I had both versions: mixed properly and not. When not it is bland like you say but conversely when mixed well the chocolate taste is rich. For me the only real way to eat anything Dairy Queen is a Chocolate Extreme - all the others are like eating a snow cone (Ice with sugar flavor).
Thanks JB, so what you are really saying is that (1) either they constantly run out of Chocolate Syrup or(2) they just simply negligent when it comes to mixing the vanilla (As they always seem to have vanilla) with the syrup.
I think that this is highway robbery . If you say "Chocolate ice cream" Well then give the customer real chocolate ice cream and not vanilla with chocolate syrup.
That is correct although in their defense the process of making any ice cream anywhere is to use the same base and then the flavor is added. In this case, you just get some vanilla with it. When blended properly it is quite chocolatey but I do find there should be a standard mix already waiting consistently. Economically it makes sense too because you cut down the amount of time staff have to take in preparing the mix and the risk of not doing it properly. I have not verified if this is just a local thing or if it is the way they do it in the US as well but either way we are talking chocolate here, the most BASIC of flavors when it comes to ice cream - it must always be available.
But what the heck am I reading? So they do not really offer chocolate ice-cream but vanilla ice-cream and they add chocolate syrup? What kind of non-sense is that? For that price? RIDICULOUS. That's the work of children or when you are in a rush, you buy one of those Hershey's chocolate syrup and put it on top of your ice-cream. I thought they offered REAL chocolate ice cream. Wow.
From what I read, people in the US complain about the same thing but they do say SOME of them carry the soft serve and others do not. The ones that do not are not as widely patronized as the ones that do - go figure. Of course in Trinidad the Dairy Queen cannot even get the chocolate mix consistently let alone the chocolate soft serve. Hence when I go to Dairy Queen it is a Chocolate Extreme (The brownie and real chocolate pieces compensate) or nothing.

Title: Dairy Queen at Grand Bazaar
Comments: I had my favourite turtle pecan cluster today at Grand Bazaar. It was horrible. Not enough chocolate or nuts and was watery inside. Long Circular Mall outlet does justice and I'm a happy customer there but guess what I live closer to Grand Bazaar but don't think ill have it there again.
The excitement of DQ in Trinidad is dying. When I go out I hardly see anyone lining up at the cashiers. Maybe people don't like their high prices or the 'newness' is gone?
When you have Häagen-Dazs in Trinidad, why would anyone go to Dairy Queen? I mean, seriously.
