Izumi nods to Holly, "It was meant to be."
She then goes back to Zen and asks him, "Before you take your leave do you mind a few questions?"
As soon as he says yes, she starts in, "Besides the dangers of the Grove itself, what or who will we be encountering in there? Do you know what else we will be going through after the Grove, or encounters we might face? Would you happen to have a map, and if not could you give what you know and we'll try to create a map from your knowledge?"
She changes her line of thinking and continues with, "Do you know what God we are to waken? Would you happen to know how we can do this task? How did this God get put to sleep in the first place?"
Again she segues to another area, "How do we prevent the Red Mist for another 100 years? Does this involve the God we are to wake? Is there a way we could just be rid of the Red Mists forever?"
Izumi stops as if she was done with her queries. Then, something pops in her mind that grows to a question that needs to be released. "One of the stories taught through the generations of my family, was about the end of the Great War. It was ended by a boy wielding the Dragon's Blade. I've been told no one remembers who that boy was, is this true? Would you know him, and could you tell us who he was so we can return with that knowledge to the world.
(Out of Character: Some of these questions are ones for the Mini-games you have posted up on the Role-playing Game Rules Thread. Specifically for the Sleeping God, and Name that Boy.)
Out of Game:
Alexander there is a full set of half plate. This is a full set of head to toe armor. There is also a breast plate which only covers the mid torso of the body strapped on by leather.
In Game:
Zens eyes light up as he is asked so many questions at one time. "Knowledge is an attribute worth pursuing." He starts off to say.
"The boots, dear sir, need not be turned off. They only need be activated their effects last for a time then fades. They can be activated each day for the same effects of movement and speed."
Zen turns to the woman Izumi and speaks clearly. "Ask away."
Hearing the woman's barrage of questions, he takes in a deep breath and begins to answer many of them.
"Dangers of the Grove; plants that move and strangle, fay that trick and mingle, monsters that take any form they wish and lay traps as if to fish for passersby. Shadows and dark things to twisted forms of hag-like horror, the monsters of the Grove are many. If you are lucky, you will only be encountering some of them there. I would gather the creeping vines that strangle which make up much of the area near the entrance will be the first peril you will face. Yet I know not which of the others you will find as I cannot foresee what path you will walk in the grove."
His breath is cold, but he is trying not to freeze the room and you have noticed he is holding back his cold for most the length he has been in this room with you all.
"After the Grove are more caves. Follow them and they should lead you deeper into the world. I have not traveled to far down them myself as I have my job to attend to here. I am sorry if my knowledge of what awaits you is limited.
I have no map, so I will not be able to offer this as aid. There is a map down here that could help you, but I know not where it lies. The owner of it made it past the Grove and that is all I know."
Zen attempts to change the conversation with Izumi following her train of thought and topics.
"The God is Fusru. I would have thought you would have known this considering you have the blue books which talk of him so much."
Praos nods at Zen confirming that the group already knew the name for the God they needed to wake.
Zen goes on. "Fusru is seen and revered among all the Gods. He was the creator of the first magic item and taught his skills to the other Gods that followed. He is seen as an ancient knowledge and power of magic and wisdom. He was also known as the wisest fool as he would often play the fool to bring smiles to the faces of the people around him. I was there the day he fell. I watched as the man form of this God took a blow no eye could follow. He fell as the magic to drive the Red Mist off was ripped from his life force. You see the Dragons Blade, the item of such power he had created, was a fragment of his soul. He had put it into the hands of mortal men in order to give them the power to fight for this plane of existence. Zen shakes his head no and adds, "I do not know how you will wake him. I only know a group will come and wake him. A group led by the rising sun and blessed by the Gods they follow, driven by the light of innocence and destined to wake a God in order to save the world."
"The Red Mist. You will need to wake Fusru, once this is done you must convince him to reforge the blade. Only with its power can the Red Mist be driven off once more. If the mist is driven back before it has a chance to be set free again then it will most likely be done away with for good this time, but I know not if this is true or the hopes of a world clinging to idealism."
Zen tilts his head as Izumi changes to yet another topic.
The boy, yes, I knew him. He was a friend and I, at the time, had sworn my life to him. His name was Mark, Mark Richards. He was not from our world, he was from the plane of non-magic, a world of technology and humanity. A place called Earth I believe. He talked of it many times to me, of things I could not understand or grasp the meanings of. Words that have no place in a land of magic. The kingdom of Co-stay had tried to rip a hole into that plane of non-magic and drain the magic of this world to create a void here. Due to Co-stays attempt, the boy was trapped on this side of the connection between worlds. Fusru promised the boy a way home, and used the last of his magic to send the boy back to the world he came from as Fusru wrapped the ground beneath him up and swallowed the city of Co-stay down to this pit with him.
I have often wondered if Mark made it home to his land of non-magic safe or if the memories of the time in this land stayed with him or were taken away just as most of this worlds memory of him was taken as he left it.
Out of Game:
And so we have a winner for the solving of the mini-quest, Name that Boy. I will get back to you about the other quest and the rewards for both.
"My head hurts from all this talk. Technology, sounds like gnome work to me. Annoying little buggers." Holly ponders the story and looks to Izumi, "Hey Izumi? Are you feeling ok? I feel like that this whole thing is bigger than me. You sure you want me in the party? I could be useful but I do hope I don't get in the way."
Out of Game: Are you sure about the spellbook? I read it said mostly blank in the list a few pages back. Maybe it could be blank aside from 0 level and a few choice first level spells? If so, I have to think Mage Armor, Color Spray, and Enlarge/Reduce Person would be good starts. I plan to get them anyways when I do become a wizard. Imagine, Alexander doubles his size and all his equipment gets bigger too. Fighters just get so much cooler when they're enlarged.
Holly examines the dagger more closely and decides it's a good dagger. "Say, are there any throwing knives, a short sword, or a way to properly wield this sword?" She pulls the sword out of her pocket and the Thorn of Fendrill gleams brightly. "It's a nice sword, but I'm afraid I can't make full use of it."
Out of Game: The real problem is I don't have a martial proficiency with the blade, so in melee it's at best a +1 currently. However, I'll be fine with it for no. I'll make it an adventure on using it. But I'd prefer a shortsword. Doesn't have to be magical, just a blade. But the dager as well, I'll need stats for it.
Izumi answers Holly bluntly, "Where else are you going to go? Might as well stick with the rest of us. Besides, your new boots should keep you out from under any ones feet if you're really worried about that.
Izumi remembers something and turns back to Zen, "I just remembered you had a reaction to me. What do you know about my tattoo?"
Alexander mutters in his sleep, tossing and turning. Occasionally a word or two is understandable, but it's mostly gibberish.
He sits up suddenly, "Dad, I already milked the goats this morning."
He lays back down and continues snoring.
