Bosses who 'phone snub' their employees risk losing trust, engagement. Supervisors who cannot tear themselves away from their smartphones while meeting with employees risk losing their employees' trust and, ultimately, their engagement, according to new research. Source 8f.
Yeah, I'd have categorized this one as a no brainer, something that didn't really need research to confirm.
Anything that gets in the way of open and honest communication between a manager and those working for them is detrimental to that relationship. I can think of no reason that a phone should be any different.

I work with bad bosses. In the past year over half of the senior employees have left. I went from 35th in level of total seniority to 5th. I am leaving this organization myself. Adding cell phones to the mix would not help at all either as they just do not care.
Yet anoother thing my bad bosses did was designate nice premium front of building parking for them and then moved all the employees from a close parking lot to a parking lot half a mile away. So now we have a half mile walk to and from our vehicles on top of them doing everything else to make work a hostile work environment. No wonder people are quitting. It used to be a very nice place to work.
