The U.S. Supreme Court decided Friday it will tackle the issue of whether same-sex couples have a constitutional right to wed, or whether states can ban gay marriage.

In the year 2015, I still can't believe this is still an issue. You should be allowed to marry whomever you want to. If there is love, isn't that what's important? How many divorces are there anyway?
Its not really about marriage itself as much as the government and tax laws recognizing you're married. To prove that, there is no law that says gays can't live together or have relations together. Still its good that its finally being fully addressed so it can be known once and for all how we are to take this subject legally.
Justices appear divided on same-sex marriage
The Supreme Court struggled Tuesday with whether they should force states to recognize same-sex marriages, with justices whose views could determine the outcome of that challenge suggesting they were reluctant to upend such a long-established institution. "The word that keeps coming back to me is 'millennia,' " Justice Anthony Kennedy, who often casts the deciding vote in an ideologically divided court, said in the first moments of oral arguments in a landmark challenge to state laws prohibiting same-sex marriages. "This definition has been with us for millennia. It's very difficult for the court to say, 'oh well, we know better.' " Ref. USAToday
Why people oppose same-sex marriage
Why do opponents of same-sex marriage really oppose it? A new psychology study concludes that many people believe gays are more sexually promiscuous than heterosexuals and may fear that sexual promiscuity threatens their own marriages and their way of life. Ref. Source 6h.
The below map from the ILGA - International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, shows countries that have legalized marriage equality in bright green. Light green yet to do so. Pink imprison gay people, while red have the death penalty for homosexuality.
