But I don't think this information establishes any connection between the kill, with subsequent kidnapping, and the man's affiliation. Sounds more like this guy lost his mind for some reason.

He is already a victim. Some of the children who were not kidnapped probably have nightmares about school buses. The child that was kidnapped will have lifetime nightmares about actually being held hostage. We don't know what the child went through but things that you experience as a child stay with you forever.
