    Vlad Tepes

Some humans are engrossed with the unusual and the unknown such as in the case with the mythical creature known as 'Dracula' or vampire. Vlad is the likely source of this creature's birth, but Vlad was many times worst.

Most authorities believe the character of Dracula in Bram Stoker's novel was based upon the historical figure Vlad Tepes (pronounced tse-pesh), who intermittently ruled an area of the Balkans called Wallachia in the mid 15th century. He was also called by the names Vlad III and Vlad Dracula. The word Tepes stands for "impaler" and was so coined because of Vlad's propensity to punish victims by impaling them on stakes, then displaying them publicly to frighten his enemies and to warn would-be transgressors of his strict moral code. He is credited with killing between 40,000 to 100,000 people in this fashion.

Reading through his history led me to think about Hitler. Even if the idea of him being a vampire was a myth I think calling him that was too 'easy' on him, he should be referred to as 'devil' or 'darkness' because I am yet to read anything good about him. I also wondered about those that actually carried out his bidding - what were they thinking?

Wow, I have never read through his history, on heard about it from others. He was truly a cruel man. The fact that he did it out of some sense of perverted morality makes his case even more bizarre. It appears that he was doing it for the good of his country. But his people must have been frightened by him. Wouldn't that make his actions not good for the country? That being said, he must have used what was good for the people as a facade to cover the fact that he enjoyed torturing people. He truly was sick.

    Defending Vlad Tepes.

Vlad the Impaler was the ruler of Walachia when Baiazid Ildirim conquered the Constantinople.

The danger of invasion was imminent and in this situation the martial low had to be introduced . Of course there have been any law adopted by Parliament he simply acted this way as many others rulers of the Medium Eve.
He eliminate the rival to his throne, punish drastically every robbery and dishonest man, praise the brave one's.
He had a keen sense of justice.
We d"ont know which was the real situation but he managed to keep stability in the country and the tales said it registered a real progress.

It's not a secret that many Romanians are nostalgic about him, even now.

There have been no Christianity in Walachia at the time, but even after the Christian ideas had been introduced, the rulers had the right of life and death over his people.
The atrocity can be seen all over the medieval world and they are very cruel.
Remember only the Spanish Inquisition, ready to burn alive any suspect , mass killing in the South America or Holland, and many many others.
In the movie "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson, we can see an entire community of a village burned alive in a Church by an English officer and the rebels hiding in a cemetery guided by a man called by the authority The Ghost .

Of course he exaggerates in killings and maybe he was ill.

I think this is the best site about Vlad Tepes .

Remember, the victors of a war write the history. For all we know he was a just and righteous ruler.
