The Game Master says...

To the surprise of the Squad, Gault casually approaches and joins you as Artemis greets him and Seth looks on.

Uhura once again monitors their biochemicals and determines that they both have the narcotic within their blood.

Around this time...

Major gets up and tests to see if their is any resistance to his leaving and he finds there is not much but the warriors suggest that he stays because,

"You stay for test, yes? In holy temple, test and then we help you go again."

They point to a section of the village you had not really noticed before. It is an ancient stone structure that seems to be built into a tree or maybe the tree grew itself into it. You wonder what 'test' they refer to.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

Major returns to the squad and on the way asks how he can see the chief. One warrior points to a simple old man seated near the celebrations. The only unique and distinguishable item on him is a gold chain that glitters in the sunlight.

The rest of you consider points of interest about the village while Uhura inquires of a passing native the location of their temple. You are shown a place West of your location just outside the perimeter of the village that has some very large trees. You cannot see the temple from where you stand.

Shortly after, Gault approaches the chief and says...

GM: I need to know what you are saying to the chief. If negotiating please detail what you expect / terms. Roll vs haggle / diplomacy depending on the direction you are taking. Each level counts as a bonus for the skill you employ. I mainly need an action from Gault at this point.

The Game Master says...

The chief is appreciative of your gesture in humbly kneeling but sends two warriors to stand you up. You simply ask him for boats with no accompanying explanation as to the why of it. All your learning at the academy is not helping you here. He speaks in a slow thoughtful way showing a face of concern as though you are asking for something wrong,

"What you need boats for... You going to place no man returns?"

The others merely look on.

GM: Please note: I only need actions from the Player / Character requested and you have a 2 day time to make your actions. Once the 2 day time limit has not passed then you know you are safe. Need response from Gault to move ahead. Say what you wish to do now.

In the same tone as before the old chief speaks as your translator does its' work,

"Peoples known as Akuntsus dwell. They same culture but methods no friendly. Gods give us river to separate us. Why you go there? No one goes there."

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

GM: No response for Gault so we move on...

As Seth watches on Major jumps in and asks for boats based on looking for someone lost...

The chief responds,

"Someone lost there?" He laughs and then coughs and then laughs a bit more with those who surround him also joining in.

"If they are lost there then they are dead already..." He then smiles and resumes to his monotone gestures,

"What have you to trade?"

Uhura chimes in with the possibility of not having to buy boats but to get passage. The chief responds again,

"What have you to trade?"

Around this time...

Artemis decides to look for an axe among the villagers. One enthusiastic native takes you neraby to his hut where he produces a modern steel hilt axe. He is excited to see what you have but become unenthused by the sight of the necklace.

"Nothing else?" He says.

Just then...

Gault feels a tugging by his pants. One of the small children of the village has taken a liking and asks for a gift. The native women have noticed and give their awe tones of approval to see what you will produce.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

Artemis allows the native to rummage through her backpack. With the large eyes of a child the native gives a big smile, looks to make sure that is what you want and starts investigating. His hand firmly graps the tripod with mini-corder and he says,

"This, this, we trade this yes?"

Without really waiting for your answer he is already using the movable parts of it.

Around this time...

Gault's resolve for the little girl is to perform a circus act.

Just then...

As Seth looks on Major hopes his gaming unit entices the chief and while others around him are amazed he isn't.

When Uhura shows her ring the chief becomes very interested and nods his head in agreement. You notice his adoration of gold is most prominent by the look of his hands which he holds high in front of him. Each finger has a finely cut gold ring on it with various colorful stones. It makes you wonder where he got it from.

The chief's 'wife' or queen rises takes the ring from Uhura and places it on the chief's hand in ceremony-like fashion. There is a loud cheer for the chief's new gift. The chief, for the first time since your meeting, attempts to rise but his age demands help from those seated beside him. When fully erect he says,

"Good, we give you passage, first you give homage to gods that brought you to us and will take you safely on river."

GM: Gault needs to roll vs Body. Those of you who gave items please remove it from your Character Sheet. Please say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

Gault, despite the odds, is actually able to pull off an entertaining show that the girl is pleased about. She runs along looking for rocks and sticks to mimic your audacious impromptu act.

Around this time...

Major, Seth and Uhura prepare to follow the chief to visit the temple which as he claims; is smarter than you because their ancient ancestors came from the sky. You are a bit confused by this wondering if he is referring to some kind of deity that they must worship. As the chief walks out of the cheerful dancing circle many stop and bow with adoration after which they return to their revelry. The chief is accompanied by his warriors and women who bid you to follow them out of the village towards the very big trees.

Meanwhile...

Artemis inherits an axe. As you look it over you realize that it is high tech grade and can even cut through light grade metal.

GM: I need actions for Gault and Artemis.

The Game Master says...

Artemis and Gault meet up. Gault leads Artemis towards the rest of the squad who are currently following the trail of the chief. You walk just outside the perimeter of the village's huts and see ahead a very interesting passageway that is either built into a tree or the tree has built itself around it. The chief stops before just it and says with his open palm pointed towards the doorway,

"This our temple. This special place. This sacred place. Only friends enter here. You our friends yes?"

He pauses and then faces you directly continuing,

"You go through there."

He points to the open doorway and continues,

"You go all way and take you to river do not come back this way, very bad luck."

He gives a diplomatic smile and then leaves you to return to the village.

A couple of warriors stay back more out of curiosity it seems a they stand further away while leaning their wait on their spears like a third leg.
