You're right. I have been treating this like a chore. Or like a test that I needed to pass. Who am I trying to impress? Maybe roleplaying is a path to self revelation. In any event, I see that I should lighten up. I'm going to start following your lead.
And I never 100% serious about incinerating the village. When I thought you were being held captive, I was trying to think of something that would serve as a diversion while I was going to rescue you. Fire was the first thing that came to mind, but, as it turns out, it wasn't necessary. So no harm done.

Out of Character: Most people who get a free high want to stay rather than burn the givers.
So I like spent some time reading what all of this is about. Here is what, you have to see game time vs real time vs what the GM describes vs what you are describing.
So here is an example. You said Artemis goes by the river when the GM hadn't said anything about a river that's probably why he said she was delusional and since she was already high he worked that into the story good. Only the GM can describe what's there, what you see and who is around you can't decide that for yourself. If you had said she looked for a place to wash herself then he could probably say what she found.
The other thing is being in sync with time. If one player wants to walk 30 feet and you want your character to walk 1 mile then the GM will say something like "Player x went 30 feet and stopped and player y is still walking." He then asks what you want to do. It doesn't mean player y finished the mile it means player x needs to decide if they're staying there or going to walk some more and player y simply says "He keeps on walking...", makes sense?
Oh and also all JB is interested in is you action, all the role play stuff you're doing is for this thread.
Out of Character: : First of all, I didn't want a "Free high". Artemis agreed to take part in the ritual because it seemed like a good way to engage with the villagers. I didn't know the feathers were drugged.
Second, I had her drop out of the dance because the game master seemed to be making noises about wanting to speed things up.
And third, it seemed reasonable to assume that a permanent village would be near a body of water. Perhaps I should not have been so specific. I'll try not to make that mistake again.
The important thing is Gault seems to be fixed up, or at least ambulatory. So we can head out to the next village and a fresh start.
Out of Character: Cool, its all good dude. Now our next mission should be to get boats to cross or at least bargain to get boats. We were talking about things we wanted to trade. By the next update we should be looking at negotiating with the chief if we can.
Out of Character: :
Okay, here's what I have in inventory:
Boots
Khaki Tropical Pants
Greenpeace -shirt
Ball cap with pot leaf embroidered on it.
Dagger in Sheath strapped to right boot.
Gold necklace with tacky pendant.
In Backpack:
Grooming Kit
Tripod with mini-corder detector (Harmful chemicals)
Food
1. Military grade regional encrypted communicator
2. Thermal control sealed sleeping bag
3. Camp set (Includes utensils, fire starter, etc.)
4. First aid kit (Includes anti-venom, boosters, anti-hallucination, etc)
Compass
There should be something in there that they'll want.
Out of Character: Yeah I can see that on your character sheet. You're not going to want to give away something like a "Military grade regional encrypted communicator" That is what "Gold necklace with tacky pendant" Is for.
I should add that if you new players read the scenario of the game then you will know what to do and what the environment is like. We're at C4 which according to the map puts us with the Tamuk tribe this tells you about them and why you wouldn't have wanted to burn them down. It also tells you why they asked you to do certain things. We need to just smile, given into their little fancies and then like move out.
