In Character: Lars examines his gear carefully, then turns to his party members, "Hmm. Who is going to take what role? Personally, I have no preference. "
Out of Character: No need for stunts for a documentary and the narrator doesn't join the crew, usually is somebody that reads a text written by professionals writers and just records it over the images when the editing is done. All of this is done in a studio, not on the field.
Usually, apart from technicians (cameramen only in this future era), there are a person responsible for the timeline and sequence of shots (we call him "Responsible of production" in Italian but I don't know the name in English) and an "Organizer" that works as director and coordinator of human resources. The other roles are made useless by this new technology (there should be an editor and various other technicians). Some figures we can think about is maybe a "Cultural mediator" that could be useful in this situation, and an expedition organizer.
Any other ideas?
Out of Character: I ain't fighting nothing and I'm definitely not going to put up any objections on a military base, let's just move this along its been more than three days and we'll get pinched in the butt if we take longer.

Specific Action: "Yeah, I tried to scan it: with my finger. But I didn't get any result", answers Nathan annoyed by the arrogant attitude of the guy, "I was thinking about trying to put it in my mouth and see if some written report comes out of my ears but maybe you guys have something we can use to scan it? Something from a high-tech country?".
Still muttering unintelligible things about people sleeping the day in which God gave brain to humanity, Nathan starts storing his newly acquired items.
In Character: Major guesses that there are different stages of getting ready so he takes his chosen items and waits for what comes next.
