Have You Ever Met A Celebrity ?

Some people just lose it when they meet a celebrity in person. Have you ever met one in person and how did they respond to you. Were they down to earth , snobish , rude , friendly ? My father met Bo Jackson back in the day and described him as being arrogant.

Celebrity Met You Have

Well, I was at the Harry Potter Premiere in London and saw all of the stars. But they were all very nice to their fans and took a hell lot of time out for them to talk to them or to give them an autograph. Though it was raining! Also I've met and talked to Eddie Izzard. He's an english stand-up, very funny and very nice. I just adore him. He is playing a role in ocean's twelve too. They were fliming in Holland...God, if only I'd known... cry.gif

LDS, you could have told them to just visit your web site to read the interviews too wink.gif

Well as for 'met', it depends on what you mean by 'met'. If you are talking about the person specifically talking with you then

I have met some local figures in Government, singers, etc. I have met Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley and some of the 12. No one in Hollywood.

Celebrity Met You Have

I'm a recovering alkie/junkie. I've attended many AA/NA meetings since my first time in recovery back in '89 (I currently have 9 years clean/sober biggrin.gif ) I've met a few famous folks, mostly musicians. Out of respect for their anonymity I won't drop names.

However, I appeared on Maury Povich's "Panorama" program in the spring of '84. He hadn't gotten syndicated yet and was working at WTTG in Washington, D.C.. Mr. Povich seemed very pleasant and compassionate. The subject for the show on which I appeared was of a very sensitive nature. At the end of taping I got upset and began to cry (thank goodness it was off-camera!) He hurried over to try to comfort me. I thought that was very kind.

Have You Ever Met A Celebrity ?

I have met a few celebrities... Bill Cosby came in for a pizza -- wearing sweats and smoking a huge cigar -- at a little bar & grill called Sam's Place (best pizza in town!) in south shore Lake Tahoe back in... 1987? My pool-playing partner walked up and introduced himself, then turned to me and said, "This is my friend Roz..." Mr. Cosby looked at me and said, "That's not Roz. Roz is much taller."

When I was living in Tennessee with my sister and her family, I met country singer Steve Azar, and Charlie Rich's son Alan (also known as Charlie Rich Jr.) who was frequently a guest on the sofa bed smile.gif

Those are the only ones I've ever actually spoken to/with.

Have You Met Celebrity

Back in 1974 when we were in Big Sky Ski Resort, Montana ~ I met and talked with Chet Huntley. Remarkable man. Such a gentleman.

David Ogden Stiers lives in Seal Rock, Or. Which is 5 miles from where I live. I have waited on him at the Hardware Store where I worked. When he first moved here he was very stand-offish with everyone, a real snob. He refuses to give autographs. One fall evening he came into the hardware store. It was the owners policy that we greet the customers before they get past the center of the store ~ and we are to ask . . "How Can We Help You?" Mr. Stiers would reply: We?, where is We?" I would indicate the entire store and say. ."We".

He was doing home repairs ~ installing a full house sound system. He wanted over 2,000 feet of speaker wire. I asked him what size? 18 or 22. He looked down his nose at me, as said very slowly ~ speaker wire, speaker wire. So I handed him a roll of 18 gauge speaker wire and a roll of 22 gauge speaker wire, and said that when he decided which he wanted, he could tell the cashier and I would get the 2,000 feet for him.

After about one hour of his "I am better than Thou" attitude ~ I asked him if I could ask him a personal question? Just one small question. . ." How do you, personally, put your pants on?" He gave me the oddest look, shook his head and said: "What?" So I repeated the question. . . "How do you put your pants on?" Then he asked me if I was serious? I said ,"Yes, Dead Serious." Then I said:
"Okay, let me ask you this way? Do you, Mr. Stiers, put your pants on feet first?" , When he said,"Well of course I do." I said. . ."Wow, that's amazing. . .So DO I!" Then I walked away from him. He brought Jamie Farr in to the hardware store to meet me, about a two weeks after that. Mr.Farr laughed and clapped Mr. Stiers on the shoulder and said," Feet first huh, that humbled you didn't it David?" I got a hug from Mr. Farr. I also asked him if Mr. Stiers was really as much of a stuck up as he wanted us to believe. Mr. Farr said that no he really wasn't, he just tries to get us to believe that.

That happened years ago. I have waited on him numerous times at the hardware store, and also at the Grocery store when I went to work there. I see him at the Post Office. He volunteers his time and talents at the local Performing Arts Center. He isn't as snobbish and holier than thou around me any more.

Great story AGene! biggrin.gif

Around Christmastime 1999 I met John DeLancie, who played recurring character Q on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He'd just co-written a Star Trek novel with Peter David, and a friend and I went into Manchester to get it as a Christmas present for me (I was still living in northwest England at the time).

We discovered that Mr. DeLancie would be holding a book signing at the store next week, and the store staff were kind enough to let me come back to have the book signed. It was at 8pm on a December night, and there we all were stood outside the store waiting when John DeLancie just strolled down Oxford St. in Manchester and into the store like any other customer. I was a little surprised by that, it was a very understated entrance for a celeb. I'd have at least expected him to be with someone and not wandering Manchester after dark alone.

Anyhow, I went in, met him, shook his hand, said a few nice things about Q on Star Trek and got my book signed and that was about it - but it was indeed well worth it.
