Belgium: Senate Approves Measure Allowing Doctors to Euthanize Children
The Belgian Senate voted today 50-17 to extend euthanasia to children with disabilities, in a move pro-life advocates worldwide had been fearing would come and expand an already much-abused euthanasia law even further.
The vote today in the full Senate comes after a Senate committee voted 13-4 to allow minors to seek euthanasia under certain conditions and the measure also would extend the right to request euthanasia to adults with dementia. There is still a chance to stop the bill in the House of Representatives, though pro-life campaigners fear it will become law. Ref. Source 8
Belgian Kids Get the Ultimate Christmas Present: Euthanasia
The outcome was expected, but observers overseas were astonished at the margin of victory. By a vote of 50 to 17, the Belgian Senate approved euthanasia for children. When the bill finally passes - which now seems quite certain - there will be no age limit for choosing to die at the hands of Belgian doctor. The next step is a vote in the lower house, which will probably take place in May.
The conditions for euthanasia are vague. Children who are under 18 but who are of sound mind can request death if their situation is "medically hopeless" and if they are experiencing "unbearable physical suffering that within the foreseeable future will result in death." Ref. Source 9
Belgium's Pursuit of Euthanasia of Children Tells Sick Kids They"re Inconvenient
When my oldest daughter Abigail was born, she spent four days in the hospital's neo-natal unit because of some delivery complications. As first-time parents, we were terrified, but one thing that put the experience into perspective for us was the fact that friends from our church also had a baby in the NICU, and he was there a lot longer than four days-his name is Landon.
Landon was delivered at just twenty-three weeks. A brain injury caused cerebral palsy, and he was on a ventilator for 88 days. It was touch and go whether he would survive. Ref. Source 3

Children With Severe Medical Conditions Denied Treatment by Obamacare Plans
Two new reports highlight the growing evidence that, thanks to Obamacare, the quality of many Americans" current healthcare is gradually declining. New Obamacare exchange plans are going to be more restrictive, with less access to doctors and healthcare centers with specialized expertise and high reputations for providing effective life-saving medical treatment. Not only are those with private insurance feeling the sting, but in addition those in Medicaid programs (Primarily for the poor) are finding it increasingly difficult to find doctors who will see them.
In yet another story detailing private health care's decline under the Obama Health Care exchange plans, Seattle news station King 5 aired a segment on January 20, 2014, describing how children "are being denied specialty treatment by insurance providers on the Washington Health Benefits Network." Belgium set to pioneer age restrictions lift on euthanasia:
Under current law, only terminally ill patients who turned 18 have the right to request euthanasia. The amended version would have no age limit imposed. In this way, Belgium is going to extend euthanasia further than the Netherlands, where children from the age of 12 are allowed to request mercy-killing. Ref. Source 7
Belgium King Urged Not to Sign Measure Allowing Doctors to Euthanize Children
Leading pro-life campaigners in Europe are urging Belgium's king not to sign a measure to extend euthanasia to children with disabilities.
Belgium's parliament voted earlier this month to allow the controversial practice. No age limit would be set, but the children who are euthanized would have 'to possess the capacity of discernment." Ref. Source 1
