The way our government is going with these buyouts my credit card may never work again. I think that all these buyouts the government is doing is wrong but try to get your congressman to vote them down. You might as well try to push water back upstream. I am sure that what ever government we find ourself in in the next couple years it is going to cost all of us Americans a lot of money.

The two alternative in my view:
A Capitalist system, that has trends up (economic boons) and down (recessions and depressions like we are in right now) or a Socialist one where everyone (not in government) is equal but they are equally poor (I.e. Cuba, China, North Korea, etc.) without a chance of economic increase.

Socialism does not create wealth, it cannot. Only the individual contributions of innovative minds can create and legitimately distribute wealth in a way that benefits the most people for the most good.

The sign of a Good Capitalist system is the exchange of wealth for a service or a product. Someone (A company with CEO's, Managers, Workers, or a small Business, pretty much the entire workforce of a Capitalist country) creates a product or service that people need or want and then they sell that product. With the money they receive they improve the product (Better TV's better Computers, Better cars , better customer service, better health care), and then they sell the improved product to make more money. If they cannot improve then they go out of business because someone else comes in and sells a better version of the product, or someone sells something better then what had existed. I would venture to say that I would not be writing on this computer if Socialism was the major force in the world for the last 100 years. We would all be equally miserable, plus we would be without TV's, computers, the comforts of our modern life forced to accept the dictates of a State controlled system.

In Socialism, improvement of the product can never happen, because there in no incentive to do so. People keep buying the same unimproved junk over an over again because they have to. The individuals employed in a State Run Business, with no competition, do not care to improve the product. Why should they? They do not have to worry about someone creating a better product, thus requiring them to do better to compete. They are stuck with a substandard living condition because there is no where to move up to.

I really hope that Socialism does not become the Government of Choice for the Americas. We may all be sheltered (metaphorically), but that shelter may be a hut with holes in roof.

That is where accountability comes in. Even in Socialism people have to be elected so if they want to remain there they need to improve services offered. Plus socialism does not stop private enterprises from offering products or services.

Socialism takes private enterprises (more importantly...sectors of the market) and makes them part of the government. Now you can tell me that a responsible socialist government would be eagar to improve their state run enterprises with new products and services, but show me one socialist government that has done so with anything other than military improvements or energy improvements (mostly around nuclear - which supports the military).

So when the Socialist government takes charge of all the hospitals (socializing the medicine) and you dont like the service...where are your options? You get very bad care, do you file against the government? What do you think you will hear back? What advancements do you think you are likely to see in medicine? Today, we have many Canadians making the trip across the boarder to get a MRI or Cancer Treatment because of their Socialized Medical Systems. Now there are some benefits as the normal broken leg is cheaper, but you do loose some choices.

Socialize the education system. Why not, we gotta make good little socialist that follow the government mantra. Oh, and we can emphasize what we want when we control it. Feel like rewritting history? No problems...your in charge. Teach they way you want it to be...just make sure that 2 + 2 is still 4, everything else is fair game.

Socialize the utilities and what if they decide to hike the price? Well, you happily pay it and say nothing. Socialize the oil industry and they want more taxes...just raise the pump price...NO BIG DEAL!

Socialize the television and communications (radio and newspapers). Would hate to see irresponsible journalism! Now the message is filtered. Just have to limit the internet and they can tell you what they want you have little in ways of a differing opinion. Don't think so...well it has and is happening today in Venezuela. They just havent gotten to that pesky internet...yet.

Socialism makes the vast majority of workers servants of the government. Do not dispell the result that that has on elections. You seriously believe that Hugo Chavez is rewritting Venzuelan Law for the good of the people or the good of Hugo Chavez? Where were your choices in Venezuela for the last election? OH yeah...that guy got threatened to be tossed in jail and basically went into hiding. Are things really better in Venezuela today? By all accounts no...so why was he re-elected?

You were right at the beginning. Socialism means less choices, less decisions and less responsibility. Dont worry, the government has your back! Accoutability? Orwell said it best...Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely!

It's the Most Socialist Time of the Year

Oh, it's a wonderful time to be a New Yorker, as the brilliant politicians are coming up with ways to make up their budget deficit. Anyone like to wager a guess as to how they plan on doing this? If you said 'raise taxes by creating 88 new taxes---you're a winner!'. The lone bright spot is that even the non-elected sitting Governor (who is a Democrat) understands that raising income taxes is not a good idea---and he hasn't proposed that at this time. The liberal elite love to tout their brilliance--but what's so brilliant about raising taxes?

Well of course they do because it is proven that people cannot at times control themselves. Do I even need to show you America right now? They have spent themselves into debt, borrowing, living on credit and now what... Our money is useless. Instead we help enemy countries like China to prosper, that makes lots of sense. There is no true democracy because in a democracy there can always be a 45% that does not agree to the point that they are willing to fight against it.

Government does not usually raise prices unless they really have to. It is proven though that private enterprise, especially one controlling a major utility where there is no competition you will likely see a consistent rise in prices.

And the Government has proven that it can? What a joke.

So your ideal of a perfect society is where the power is taken out of the hands of individuals and is placed in the hands of governmental officials. Why is the government any more ethical then those outside of the Government? Is it because they are idealist that always have the best interest of the people at heart, or is it because the have the power of the Military and can force people to live a certain way and be what the "social engineers" consider responsible?

No thank you.

Better to die a free man then to live as a slave.

That's the problem with most people, they're quick to cry freedom. Any freedom you have in a country is implied and can be taken away in an instant. Better yet you may be fed the illusion that you are free by a capitalist regime because they want you to buy. Is the Patriot Act making you more free? Are you more free now that you were forced to pay certain high amount of money for something essential as oil / gas just a few weeks ago? Why do other countries not have this problem? Why were they able to subsidise oil for the sake of their people, for instance the Venezuelans. No you are free, free to lose your home to foreclosure, free to lose your job to a slowing economy, I hope you also have a get out of jail free card when harder times come knocking and you may be forced to do things you never thought about before.
