Why I Am a Socialist
By Chris Hedges
The corporate forces that are looting the Treasury and have plunged us into a depression will not be contained by the two main political parties. The Democratic and Republican parties have become little more than squalid clubs of privilege and wealth, whores to money and corporate interests, hostage to a massive arms industry, and so adept at deception and self-delusion they no longer know truth from lies.

My eyes are wide open and I have seen the millions of dead bodies left in the wake of the socialist utopian dreamer's.
No thanks, no amount of rhetoric will erase that view from my mind.

Glenn Beck: 'Our republic is at stake'
It's Friday and for most people that means they are getting ready for the weekend, but for Glenn it's another day dominated by worry---worry about the state of our republic. He's got plenty of reason to be concerned because the government is taking it from us right before our very eyes.

U.S. Moving Toward Czarism, Away From Democracy
By David Sirota
History's great American parables teach that if anything unified our founders, it was a deep antipathy to dictatorship. As bourgeois revolutionaries from Boston to Philadelphia courageously split with the British crown in 1776, they created three equal branches of government to prevent, in the words of James Madison, "a tyrannical concentration of all the powers" in a president's hands.

Comments: Nighthawk - In most parts of the world, they refer to the USA as America. "The States" or "The US" is a Canadian term.
As to Canada becoming socialist, I don't know if you noticed but we have been saddled with a George W. wanna-be, Stephen Harper, as prime minister. He has stopped all attempts at meeting our Kyoto Accord targets, he sided with Bush on all issues and as made being a Canadian an embarrassment.
In October, during an election, he even announced that we would not feel the affects of the recession and we would still boast a federal government surplus. In December he suddenly announced there would be a deficit.
This guy is so right wing he makes Newt Gingrich look Communist.
As to Hugo Chavez, I think he's an embarrassment to most of Latin America. Socialism won't make strides in the Western Hemisphere.
March to Socialism - 'A' for effort?
From the New York Times - an article about the sense of entitlement that's on the rise with students. They feel all they need to do to get a 'B' is attend class. For an 'A' they have much tougher standards: they have to show up and listen to the lectures. That sounds like a great idea - we wouldn't want you to earn it or anything. We wouldn't want you to be oppressed under the tyranny of a competitive, capitalist atmosphere. Ah, kids. Where do they get such crazy socialists ideas anyway. It's not like there is someone in authority promoting socialism - oops, never mind. Ref. Source 7
