Steubenville Ohio Rape Trial

Closing arguments have ended in the Steubenville, Ohio, rape trial, and the judge says he will hand down a verdict Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.

Two high school football players are accused of raping a 16-year-old girl, who prosecutors contend was drunk, during a series of end-of-summer parties in August 2012.

Attorneys for the two teenage boys say they are innocent.

The trial has gained national attention because of the lurid text messages, cell phone pictures and videos and social media posts surrounding the alleged sexual abuse of the girl.

Two Steubenville high school football players accused of raping an allegedly drunk 16-year-old girl were found guilty by an Ohio judge on Sunday.

Judge Thomas Lipps announced his decision after reviewing evidence presented over four days of testimony in the case against 17-year-old Trent Mays and 16-year-old Ma'lik Richmond.

The ruling brings to an end a trial that gained national attention for its lurid text messages, cell phone pictures and videos, and social media posts.

At the heart of the case was the question of whether the alleged victim was too drunk on the night of August 11 and the early morning of August 12 to understand what was happening to her and to consent. Ref. CNN

Four more school officials have been indicted in connection with the investigation into the rape of a 16-year-old girl at a party last year in Steubenville, Ohio. Those indicted include Michael McVey, the superintendent of Steubenville's school district, WKYC-TV reported.
