I only say Hello, when I answer the phone, as I was always taught that it was dangerous to say your phone number out loud when you answer the phone.
As for picking up the phone with somebody saying that to you, I would put the phone down as fast as I could, and then follow it up with a report to the telecom office!
If it was repeated, and the caller kept saying the same things and I felt frightened, I believe I would then be looking at changing my phone number altogether!
Today, I just answer Hello and enjoy all the confusion it brings, as I am currently in Taiwan. However, when I was back in the US, I used to have a good time setting up strange greetings on my answering machine. One of my favorites was the following:
Howdy! This is Vince's liquor, guns and ammo. Where you and your gun get loaded. Thanks for a callin, but I aint in right now and have left my trusty dog Duke behind to mind the store. Come here and say Hi to the folks Duke. [silence] Come here you mangey mutt 'n say Hi [dog whimper]. Aint gonna tell you one more time...get over here and say Hi [you hear a gun cock and a shot go off...then the dog howls and runs away]. Weeeeeell, Duke aint here neither, but do come by and see our new drive thru and have a fine and festive day. Remember, Vince's liquor, guns and ammo. Where we will take a shine to ya and put some shine in ya as well!
I got a lot of fun responses and some really confused ones. It seemed to scare off the telemarketers pretty good, so I kept it for a while.

It all depends on my mood. I would usually start my greeting by saying either "Hello" or "Good Morning/Afternoon!" My voice would usually sound very warm and friendly. If I ever answered the telephone and I hear the above response, I would be so scared that I may hesitate to respond to the caller or most likely, I would just hang up very quickly.
I usually get these calls once every 3 or 4 days.... No need to be alarmed, I'm in grad school so my friends generally do this every time they feel they're bored.
