The Bakke Decision

What are your views on the Bakke Decision where a white male applied to enter a University that rejected him although his scores were much higher than other minority students who applied and were admitted.

The 1973 and 1974 application forms, respectively, asked candidates whether they wished to be considered as "economically and/or educationally disadvantaged" applicants and members of a "minority group" (blacks, Chicanos, Asians, American Indians). If an applicant of a minority group was found to be "disadvantaged," he would be rated in a manner similar to the one employed by the general admissions committee.

Decision Bakke The

I believe that the decision in the end to admit Bakke was the right one to make at the time. I've always thought that judging minorities on a different scale was never the right way to promote racial and cultural integration, anywhere, whether it be at college or at a company. All persons should equally earn the right to attend college or work for a company; special provisions can be given in other forms, such as Minority scholarships, etc.
