I am not sure if this ever happened in Trinidad before but last night around 12:30 am, electricity was down in the WHOLE country. Right now, the power supply has been restored in most of the country. How did it affect you?
I wasn't surprised there was a major blackout last night, because Trinidad and Tobago always have issues with utility. I didn't know exactly what caused this major blackout, so I cannot tell you what exactly what happened. It didn't really affected me when the blackout occurred at 12:30 AM, but it was harder for me to sleep in that situation though.
The sad part about this is not that there was a blackout but already there were those who thought they should start looting (Barataria). Fortunately the police / army stopped that from happening but it makes you wonder how Trinis will react if there were a major catastrophic event.
The government is currently allocating a second fuel source so that there is not a dependence on only one fuel source: natural gas from Point Lisas. Apparently there is already a company contracted with producing 700 MMW of power to certain stations.
