Women Belong at Home?
I found this quote... I wondered what the Sisters thought about it:
QUOTE |
To this philosophy, there are rejoinders from many sources that cry there are not enough jobs to go around and that a job for a youngster means a job lost to the head of a family. And the answer of the judge to this is: Get women out of the factories and put them back into the home where they belong. . . cooking, sewing, cleaning house, and doing the traditional woman's work. It would do both for them and their neglected youngsters a world of good. If a few million working mothers who need not work were to go home to their families, there might be employment for men now unemployed and part and full-time work for youth who ought to help in family finances and who need occupation for their abundant energy. I read this quote before and yes I was kind of schocked. It sounds pretty hard but I believe in the words of the Prophet. Women should realize that they can fulfill their full potential at home too, they don't need to work to prove themselves or others that they're smart. There are circumsntances when the wife doesn't have option but to work. But if the husband has a good job and is providing with all things they need, then the woman should be the homemaker, mother and wife at home. Yes, that's her place.
I read what your grandfather said what I didn't really like was the part 'Put the woman at home' the word put there sounds like the woman is like a thing or something, but don't worry I don't think we have any feminists around... as far as I know!
Yes there are times, unfortunetly in todays world a great many times, when a woman has to work outside the home. Today we have a world of single parents, low paying jobs & high cost of living. Also not all women marry, I for one have not. So the need for women to work is there, and there are women who find that a carreer is more fullfilling for them. Should these women be told to stay at home. What of the women who spent years educating themselves should they just chuck it all. I firmly believe that if possible and desirable by the woman, yes she can stay at home, but the choice is hers. Maybe her husband will be a stay at home dad while she has the career.....
Like most things in the Church, changing times causes changes of the attitude of the Brethren towards world issues. For instance there is actually an encouragement, yes, an encouragement for women to educate themselves to be able to work. How do I know that? We get the forms for Church loan to do it! It seems the Church believes as Marymaid said... 'there are times, unfortunetly in todays world a great many times, when a woman has to work outside the home'. So I guess the best possibility is mom at home, but when necessity arises, mom at work is needed. However, I should point out... mom at work should not be a good thing if it is to maintain an affluent lifestyle at the sake of the family. Let the Spirit guide.
