Has anyone read the Hellblazer graphic novels, they are what that travesty of a film Constantine that came out recently was based on! Its about a Magician/ wheeler dealer/ psychic investigator called john Constantine who amongst his adventures tricks the devil, impregnates the second incarnation of the virgin Mary and befriends swamp thing! the series begins with a collection called original sins, but my personal favourite is one called dangerous habits! As well as clever storytelling this series also incorporates fantastic artwork, one artist especially called Glenn Fabry.
Also anyone into this should also check out the Preacher series
Hellblazer / John Constantine (Hover)
I never found the hellblazer series very interesting. I found the preacher series entertaining, but the hellblazer as a whole got kind of hokey in my opinion. Constantine wasn't great, but the special effects made it entertaining, more so than the comic series in my opinion. Maybe my view would be different if I had taken the time to really get into the series and not just read a few. I thought impregnating the second virgin mary was rather ridiculous and a lame plot outline.
Fair enough, I just like the fact that he could get away with something like that, no matter what happened he always managed to make good on himself I think it's the whole lovable scoundrel thing, did you read any of the issues that Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon did? You might find them a bit more agreeable as I will agree the earlier HellBlazers weren't the best!
Never was a fan of super heroes in religions that are in the AD era. In other words I can dig some mystic Egyptian power but not Catholic. But that's besides the point. The story was mediocre, maybe because of what I said before but the graphics were cool.
